Motorola spill-proofs the Xyboard 8.2 and 10.1 [Update: They’ve Always Been Spill Proof]

14

You know the old saying: if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. While that may be true, Motorola is taking a slightly different approach with the introduction of two new Xyboard tablet models. In this case it’s “if it ain’t broke, add a spill-proof coating so it stays that way.” Both the Xyboard 10.1 and Xyboard 8.2 are now available with an added bit of water-resistance for the same price as the original. All specs remain the same, but the new models ship with a free portfolio case and HD media dock. The Motorola Xyboard 8.2 with spill-proof coating is available now for $399. The Motorola Xyboard 10.1 is available for $499.

UPDATE: As per Motorola, apparently, the Xyboards have always been spill-proof and the company was just advertising this little known fact. Who knew? For previous Xyboard owners, no need to send Motorola that angry email now. Stand down.

    1. Now that you have accomplished your life long dream of being “first” you can now aspire to be….a lemming.

  2. I’d love for my next high end device to be water proofed.  Besides drops, that’s the #1 killer for most people.  This is a good trend we’re seeing.

  3. I thought that the nano-coating was already on all of the XYBoards!

    1. It’s just enamel.

  4. Perhaps the previous owners can send their’s in for the water-resistant treatment. If not for free, a nominal charge, to cover shipping.

Now that MOTOROLA has demonstrated that this technology can be implemented w/little cost being added to the manufacturing process, there is no excuse this practice shouldn’t be implemented industry-wide,at least in the electronic devices that are prone to moisture damage.

      1. Why so much hate? Is this how the community of android treating other people?

        1. Only those that make blanket statements like
“the new ipad is better. ”

You don’t even tell us why it is better in this case. is it spill proof? can it be submerged in a galon of water and still work, 10? 100?

You need to make your posts relevant.

  6. With, the way things are…it’s getting harder to afford a new Andriod phone, let alone a tablet…

  7. Well at least they aren’t going and making more major changes like adding bigger batteries to devices and calling it new… oh wait.

  8. Heard, there’s a coating you can get for the phone you got now.
