Infographic: The Patent Wars Web

9

A lot of companies are suing a lot of other companies in this hectic world of technology. It can be difficult to keep up with who’s suing who and for what and what the outcome usually is. It turns out Verizon keeps a tab on these goings-on – they have a lot vested in these companies, after all – and they’ve come up with a couple of interesting infographics which show us where the chips lie.

Using lines and arrow they show who is suing who and – as you might expect – Apple has a lot of arrows pointing their way. They also show the estimated amount of patent arsenals and who’s borrowing from who. It’s pretty interesting stuff so be sure to take a look at both above and below. [via PC Mag]

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. I never thought that I would need to use my college degree to understand cell phones.  This is a good visual picture of just how crazy and stupid this has gotten.

  2. It’s pretty funny how most of the arrows are going to and from Apple. But, that was expected.

  3. apple started this shit and now they seem to be sued by everyone. its time for pay back

  4. Well, those lines clear everything up. It all makes sense now.

  5. Anybody notice the amount of lines coming out of Google….

  6. Once Apple has to file chapter 11 because they are becoming insolvent and can’t pay the lawyers’ bill anymore this will slow down significantly.
I understand that you have to protect your investment (R&D). But for the “parents” claims Apple is suing it is just embarrassing. Btw. I invented the square Apple where is my license fee?!?! Lol

    1. I hate to break it to you, but Apple just had their most profitable quarter ever in history. They’re not hurting because of lawsuits.

Which is, incidentally, exactly why these sorts of lawsuits continue.  The companies filing them do not suffer for doing so.  They need to be made to suffer.

    Some bits from TFA . . .

The Hague has rejected Apple’s design-related gripes against Samsung’s
Galaxy Tab tablet, snubbing its request for a ban on the sale of the
    iPad rival in The Netherlands.

After presiding over wrangles regarding the exact appearance of the two
tablets and a thorough discussion of features such as dotted lines,
screen icons and thickness of the device
, the Dutch judge concluded that
the Samsung Tablet gave a different overall impression to Apple’s iPad.

Are you kidding? Thickness of the device?

That’s like claiming infringement of a sports car design based on “goes fast”.

  8. The only people that will come out ahead after these stupid lawsuits are settled will be lawyers.
