Well this is one the best sales we’ve ever seen in the Android market today. Google and its developer partners are apparently running something called the 10 Billion Promo. “10 billion what,” you ask? We’re not entirely sure either. Here’s what the promo banner in the Android market read, though: “10 Days of Offers: Top Premium Apps, 10¢ Per App.”
We know it’s not apps uploaded to the Android market. Perhaps it’s 10 billion apps downloaded? That would be the most sensible guesstimation but we really don’t know. All we know is that the following list of apps can be had for just $.10 each:
- SoundHound
- Asphalt 6: Adrenaline HD
- Minecraft – Pocket Edition
- Swiftkey X
- Endomondo Sports Tracker
- Great Little War Game
- Sketchbook Movile
- Fieldrunners HD
- Color & Draw for Kids (Phone)
- Paper Camera
There are a few that should really grab your attention here. You can’t even buy gum for $.10 these days so you might as well hop one a few of these if you’ve been holding out.
As for the 10 Days of Offers line, we want to assume that different deals can be had each day for the next 10 days, but we won’t make that assumption. Let’s hope Google comes out with official word on all this before too long. Click here to get started with all the apps. [via Android Police, Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]
You forgot the link in the “Click here,” :)
You forgot the link in the “click here” part.
Its a shame that I already owned most of these apps, but this is why google rocks! Looking forward to the next 9 days worth of cheap apps.
I own a half of these apps for absolutely free thanks to the Amazon market.
This looks good! By the way, they’ve not gone with any exchange rates, in the UK it’s £0.10 per app.
As for the 10 billion, either it’s because they’ve hit 10 billion total app installs or this promo is to help push them over that line I’d guess.
Another article about this promo said Google’s Android Market has hit 10 billion downloads, which makes sense, considering app-reinstalls probably count towards that number. I know I’ve re-installed my favorite apps probably a dozen times trying different ROM’s.
Yup!
Interesting, I don’t see that on the UK version, maybe because the word “billion” is a bit more ambiguous here?
Ye as soon as your google account has been registered with an android phone that support the apps, you can buy them and they’ll be linked to your account so that you can install them free as many times as you want
edit: replied to another post dunno why it ended up here..
And there’s VAT, which added 30% for me, despite the VAT rate being 20%. This is like twice the price than in the US, what a load of bullshit!
… wait that’s 13 pence each. Screw it, I’m off to buy me some apps :)
Thanks for the heads up guys!
Hey Quentyn, regarding you’re assumption about the next 10 days, Google’s Reto Meier has confirmed in comments on Google+ “Yep, 10 different apps each day for the next 10 days” https://plus.google.com/111169963967137030210/posts/QKMCuA9Z5Yh
Nice! I just bought Asphalt 6. Who can’t afford ten cents?
Bought 6 of the apps… and already own one other. Pretty sweet deal… I was iffy about a few of the apps, but for $.10, why even waste your time thinking about it?
Nope. No 10¢ deals when i checked.
I take it back. Follow link at bottom of post. When i just went to the store the deals didn’t show. I got six of them. RAD! :)
asphalt 6 is incompatible with my samsung vibrant :(
Maybe the 10 Billion is the number of hits they hope to register because this is secretly a load test. Or maybe they’re trying to get people like me to finally pay SOMETHING for an app so I will have to put in a valid credit card, making future purchases of apps and music easier.
AWESOME. Just bought a few apps. Wont let me buy Asphalt 6 tho for some reason. Processing error…
Bought the Paper Camera app. Pretty cool, especially for 10 cents.
Pretty sweet. Been wanting the minecraft app, but for $7 I was going to wait until they had it right.
Awsome!! :D Got Soundhound, Asphalt, paper camera and Edomodo.
super sweet!
Well, it says “10B downloads and counting” on the bag in the promotional ad on the market start page, so my guess is that the sale is related to that ;)
Wait..half of those were already free through Amazon. Could I just wait it out? Hmmm *pinching pennies*
Sure you can, if you don’t mind amazons annoying DRM, and you don’t want to support the developers
great deal! thanks… picked up several of these great apps. Color & Draw for Kids (Phone) sucked though, haha
I don’t have a smartphone yet, i’m waiting for the galaxy nexus (and
waiting and waiting…) so i keep missing out on all these amazon free
apps and deals like these. Is there any way i can buy the apps and
download them onto my computer (imac) and then move them to the phone
once i get it? Unfortunately, when i try just downloading through my google market account to my comp, it gives me this message: “There are
no Android phones associated with this account. Please sign in with a
different account.”
Don’t suppose anyone knows a workaround?
Get a used android from someone and register it with your email? You don’t have to have phone service on it to be able to download stuff to it.
You can get the free amazon apps on amazon.com..
Hmm, some of those I already have as an Amazon free app of the day, but it’s probably worth getting again at 10 cents to have them from the real android market.
Faster updates with explanations for the updates and the benefit of being able to run the app without having Amazon’s market app having to be on the system.
Yup! I did the same thing. 10c ain’t gonna kill me and it does make it much more simple.
I wish people paid me in gum!
That paper camera looks pretty cool
Asphalt 6 was incompatible with my dinosaur of a Sensation phone!
is there a way to buy incompatible apps?
Almost all of these have been offered as the Free App of the Day in the Amazon App store. And if you read Phandroid regularly and haven’t set up the Amazon App store yet for the freebies you are a buffoon.
That is all.
Fun fact.
Not everyone lives in America, which is the only place amazon app store works
Fun fact #2: you can set up your account to have a US registered address and get the FAOTD from outside US.
fun fact #2 is wrong
It is not enough to change my adress I will also need an American credit card
I never said change your address, you just add one. Also, fake a credit card. As you aren’t going to be paying with it it doesn’t matter. There are plenty of sites that will give you fake (but valid) card numbers and addresses.
42 FAOTD and counting from UK.
So what you are saying is I should break the law, which will mean jail time if I get cought, just to get the daily free app from amazon, which uses an annoying DRM. This is so much worse, than if you just pirated the app. Are you insane or something?
And it still doesn’t change the fact that you need to be an american to use amazon app store.
Looks like fun fact #2 could land you in jail.
American Jail?
The thing with Amazon is you have to havea active data connection to use your app…
I just bought all of them :)
I just wish Google would include an option (like Amazon does) to “buy it now, install it later.” Like the for the paper camera app…I don’t want this installed all the time because I don’t think I’ll use it very often. But if I’m ever feeling artsy, I would like to have it available to install.
I know I can de-install any of these apps that I don’t want on my phone right now, but it would just be nice if I didn’t have to install them in the first place in order to purchase them.
Oh, and the Asphalt 6 app? I can’t buy it right now because I can’t install it to either my OG Droid or my G1. Shouldn’t I still be allowed to buy it so that I can run it on Thursday? :)
actually, you could get paper camera and some other apps for free on getjar.com (gold apps)
I just installed asphalt and it said it needed an additional 100+ Mb. played it didnt like it. Where can i find this “extra data” that was installed so i can remove it?
I’ll be stocking up on applications for the next ten days :]
Google just gave me the confidence in Android’s App Ecosystem that I needed to stick with their OS for quite a while longer. Good stuff.
The page now says 10 billion apps downloaded so the guess was right.
