Leaked Verizon Email and PDF Confirms Verizon Galaxy Nexus December 9th Launch

53

Leaks have been coming out of the woodwork these past few days and it seems the boys over at RootzWiki have managed to secure a leaked email and PDF confirming the much rumored December 9th launch date for the Galaxy Nexus. This pretty much coincides with what we’ve been hearing from our sources (although we’ve gotten more than a few emails stating December 15th is the new Dec 9th).

Judging by the wording of the email and PDF this almost seems like a rush job. Stores will apparently be getting their shipments on December 6th, just three days before the big launch with demo units already hitting some stores complete with Ice Cream Sandwich packaging (image below: courtesy of Droid-Life). My question is will the Galaxy Nexus even receive a well deserved big launch, or will it just happen to pop up into stores without an ad spot or major announcement from Verizon? Only a few more days until we find out…

  1. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT

  2. Uh… so where the hell are the pre-orders?

    1. There probably won’t be any

    2. They don’t always do pre-orders for phones. Considering the issues they have supposedly had and the lack of advertising, this feels like one of those phones that will just appear on display without a big fuss from Verizon.

    3. Pre-orders are mainly a gimmick in my opinion. Honestly, 5 smartphones since 2004 and a pre-order wasn’t offered for any of them.

  3. fingers crossed

  4. OK, not to be a true downer, but this can be created by anyone really.  I hope for the 9th because my OG sucks right now.  I will be at the VZW store the minute it opens if they have it.  But, until there is anything official, I take these as nothing more than more rumors.

  5. To believe or not to believe, that is the question.  I WANT TO BELIEVE.

  6. Pre-orders? Smells a little bogus. Documents are pure character based, no logos, no photoshopping even needed

  7. Am I the only one that thinks that’s a garbage letter.  This was a letter supposedly coming from corporate and it uses the phrase “cannot be displayed or sold til December 9th.”  The use of the “til” is highly unprofessional.  Maybe I’m wrong and “corporate” employs a bunch of 14 year olds.  Just seems odd.

    1. I’ve gotten many emails from corporate offices with unprofessional things in them, typos, slang, run on sentences you name it. Not necessarily a sure indicator of a fake. Not saying I totally believe it, but I did hold the dummy phone at Costco today (no I don’t have a picture so believe me or not, but I still know it happened, and it was great:) convinced me to wait out my glitchy OG Droid for at least a little longer)

    2. As a professional who is dying inside waiting for this phone, I totally agree. That line in particular totally killed the joy I momentarily possessed. Let the agitated waiting resume:-)

    3. I’m going with “Verizon corporate employs a bunch of 14 year olds.” I’ve been a customer for a while, and the ONLY reason I’m still with Verizon is because I was previously with AT&T and Sprint, and they both employ 14 year olds, too. When it comes to professionalism, I have yet to be impressed by a US telecom company.

  8. Verizon has raped the Nexus brand. They purposely delayed the launch to give the Droid RAZR a head start, added bloatware, and even stripped off the Google name from the back and replaced it with their own (as if they any say in the design of the phone whatsoever).

I’ll be buying the GSM version. The REAL Google Nexus.

    1. Okay, you people need to relax with the exaggerated crap. Yes, this launch was handled terribly from a release point standpoint. But bloatware? Because it has the incredibly useful My Verizon app? Just relax, jesus christ.

      1. I totally agree. As long as VZW doesnt try to screw us over with the bootloader, this phone will be simply amazing

        1. agreed. only time will tell

      2. No, he’s right. Byt I dont blame Verizon. I blame Google. Theyve got NO spine at all.

        1. huh? Google has no spine for allowing Verizon to get 4.1.0 ready, since 4.0.1 had issues? …. Shame on Google…. ?

    2. Dude, you are blowing this waaay out of proportion. This takes first-world-problems to a new level.

    3. bloatware? root it and remove it or freeze it or disable it. actually i wont do that because why would i remove an useful app?
“stripped off the name” does people really care? i know i dont.

also, they delayed because fixing a bug.

    4. I don’t think rape means what you think it means.

    5. So, you’d rather have this so-called “real” Nexus on a shitty carrier with no 4G, as opposed to the the 4G Nexus on the carrier with the best 3G and 4G coverage in the US?

      Makes total sense. /s

    6. didn’t the Nexus One have a T-Mobile theme chooser? (could be wrong)

      1. nope, the Nexus One is currently operating on the latest version of android 2.3 and is pure stock android, wifi tether and all.

  9. Please don’t use the word “confirmed” until it comes directly from Verizon.  We’ve been through this before.

  10. who is joining me for a heist movie esque robbery of all ups trucks going to VZW stores?

  11. Beyond tired of reading rumor after rumor after BS rumor. I used to love reading Phandroid several times a day but the continuous GOSSIP has finally taken it’s toll. BGR may not have the best app, but 99% of their content is not filled rumors that originated from their best friends brothers sisters ex boyfriends little three year old cousin. After this post the next step is to delete Phandroid for good.

    1. BGR? Are you talking about the site that posts contradicting reports from “analysts” back to back?

  12. Haha, GSM version it is. The more I read about Verizon, the less likely I am to ever go to them…the iPhone is the only phone they let launch without tampering.

    1. I am stuck with Verizon as an additional line to a family plan, so I have to deal with their BS or go pay waaay more on another carrier. They like to mess with Every single phone. Replacing Google with Bing almost made me not get my fascinate, but I have trouble resisting Super AMOLED. It just looks so much better to me. I’ll be getting my GN with whatever big red wants on it :(

    2.  They did not tamper with the OG Droid.

      1. Or the XOOM

        1. or the Galaxy Nexus

          1. I’m confused.  They did “tamper” with the Galaxy Nexus.  I personally don’t care based on what they actually did, and I highly doubt it will really delay any future updates, but they still tampered with it.

  13. Why does Verizon keep doing this? Constantly guessing of phones release dates up until the very day the phone releases?! I could make a list of phones that have been this way…

Why not just pick a day and advertise the heck out of it? Make it a big launch. Get people hyped. Quit wasting blogger’s time with all this guess work. It’s not like you are trying to hide details about the phone. We already know everything about the phone! Just tell people when they can buy the freaking thing!

    Sorry, I’m done now.

    1. I agree it sucks for us. But look how much we’ve all been talking about it. And the hype that has built up on it’s own with nearly no advertising money spent on it.

  14. i work security in a office building in dallas and found 40 verizon galaxy nexus’s in a company that writes reviews for samsung. the release is imminent!

  15. Ridiculously easy to fake…this is just a screenshot of my gmail account and a pdf i made in 5 minutes, 0 photoshop.

    https://img.skitch.com/20111206-j4r64ik8b9stp236qfwrrsju99.jpg

    1. eh, the source link makes the gmail screenshot make a little more sense than the cropped images (and explanation) in this article, but still not a whole lot.

    2. Effing Awesome! Thanks for the hilarity Morris!

    3. This just made my day Morris,

    4. You forgot to add the erroneous black boxes everywhere to make it look more authentic. You can’t have a leaked email without erroneous black boxes. Every leak faker knows that.

  16. You can take pre orders as soon as you put a sku on your system. It’s doesn’t have to be the retail sku, just a replacement sku that you return when you ring out the actual phone. As I said a few weeks back, we would see it on the 8th or 9th. My Samsung rep said the 5th but that’s when it was available to order.

  17. holy tit nipple!

  18. Besides launching the phone, Verizon is not going to put any money behind this, they really don’t care because it is not going to make them any money on the back end. Instead they are going to market the hell out of the Droid 4 and xyboard.

  19. What is the first app you will install on your Galaxy Nexus when you receive it Friday?

    1. My Verizon, oh wait, it’s already there!

Seriously though, I would have definitely installed it anyway, but I’ll probably actually install something with good graphics, so I can see that beautiful screen put to work.

    2. ???? But I will use the online market to push the apps to my phone the easy way.

Of course, once the first ROM comes out I’ll be doing that again. Hurry up and get a custom kernel on the G-Nex!

  20. Big props to Phandroid…the rumor mill is tough to manage with its constant influx of info, and tougher still to decipher accurately and weed things out.  It’s easy for us to bitch, but big thanks to the folks at phandroid.  Since droid-life is on the left coast, they don’t update anything until 11am EST where I am, so phandroid it seems always gets the scoop.  I always check this site first.

  21. i called my local corporate store and insolently asked if they had any in stock and was told no it has not been released yet it has been pushed back a few times but he was last told the 12th is the date but they normally dont know for sure till a few days before the release, but they have already started getting accessories  so it is close

  22. I don’t want to join the rumor mill, so I’ll just share my experience. Just called 2 local stores to ask how many nexus they are expecting bc I’m working and need to know if I need to beg the girl to go.
1st guy at store#1 took my number and says he’ll call and “let you know if it’s busy Friday morning”.
Girl at store #2 said they “may only get about 6 in the first shipment”. She went to check with someone else and came back with a very censored response “we will have some available on launch day”. I then thanked her and she said “You’re welcome. So, we open at 9am Friday, you should tell her to be here by then”.
    :-)
