Updates to Android 2.3.5 Rolling Out to Samsung Fascinate Users

9

The Samsung DROID Charge waited a long time for its Gingerbread update (that it got yesterday) but Samsung Fascinate owners have been waiting even longer. Reports are flowing in of users receiving Android 2.3.5 via over the air. Check your phone in the settings menu to see if yours is ready to be pulled down (if you’re not rooted, that is). If it’s not available, be sure to give it a week or so as it may be a staggered processo. [via AndroidForums.com]

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. Checked for update as soon as I saw this, it was available for me.  I’m not rooted.

  2. second that

  3. Been on GB for weeks now. But nice to see an official release.

  4. DO NOT UPDATE YOUR  FASCINATE!!! it bricked my phone and now it only boots up to the samsung logo and just hangs there.. i went on the verizon forums and read about a few others with the same issue. i would hate for anyone else to be in the same boat as me. I went to the verizon store and the lady said there was nothing she could do for me even though it was their fault it was bricked

  5. I did the update this morning and my phone is fine, it’s actually working way better. The 3g speeds have improved.

  6. Loving the ICS rom on my fascinate=) Got one on the cheap since my OG droid was dying, this will hold me over until the nexus launches.

  7. WTF?! F*ck the fascinate!!
When is the Infuse going to get an update?!

  8. I downloaded the update yesterday and it is awesome.  Everything seems to work faster, especially the browser. Are others experiencing the same thing?

From my experience, you won’t see a lot of changes.  The notifications at the top of the screen are different and the Email app has a different font. The update went without a hitch but you will have to manually sign in to several apps and I did have to unload/reload Swiftkey X.  Considering the results of upgrading to Gingerbread  these minor inconveniences are well worth it.

I know it’s fashionable to dump on Verizon but I appreciate the update.  With the number of smartphones that have been added to the stable in the last year, it would have been easy to let the Fascinate die on the vine. I can’t just go and purchase a new phone to get the latest and greatest.  Two year contracts and ETF’s cause me to be a LOT more loyal.

  9. What happens or doesn’t happen if my phone is rooted?
