LG Prada K2 Teased In New Concept Sketches – Looks To Bring Sexy Back To Android

17

Looks like LG is bringing sexy back with their upcoming Prada K2. The Prada phone 3.0 was teased in these conceptual sketches showing off a very sexy exterior, if I do say so myself. The design is very reminiscent of the new Nokia Lumia form factor or even the older iPod Nano’s — which, only seems fitting seeing how the it’s believed the OG iPhone “stole” LG’s all touchscreen design for the Prada back in the day. Something I’m sure LG has never forgotten.

Rumors suggest the LG Prada K2 could have a 4.3-inch 2nd generation Nova HD display, dual-core processor followed by an 8MP shooter in the rear and 1.3MP on the front. The device is supposed to launch in early 2012 and let’s hope LG has enough sense to fill this thing with Ice Cream Sandwich and release stateside. Full press release can be found below. What do you guys think? Hot or not?

PRADA AND LG SIGN EXCLUSIVE AGREEMENT CEMENTING PARTNERSHIP

PRADA Phone by LG 3.0 to be launched in 2012; the collaboration has resulted in
mobile phones with a strong identity

SEOUL, Nov. 24, 2011 –- PRADA and LG Electronics (LG) today renewed their exclusive mobile phone partnership at a signing ceremony in Seoul, Korea. Building on this partnership’s previous success, the two companies will develop the PRADA phone by LG 3.0, for launch in early 2012.

Under this partnership, LG will be PRADA’s exclusive mobile phone partner. The collaboration, which began in 2006 and resulted in two premium mobile phones being introduced in 2007 and 2008, focuses on key elements within the smartphone, including software and user interface down to its design and packaging.

“The partnership between Prada and LG has always been characterised by an innovative approach and uncompromised quality of style, design and breakthrough technology,” said Mr. Patrizio Bertelli, CEO of PRADA Group. “These values are common to both our brands, which have always anticipated, and often set, the trends in many fields. We were therefore delighted to cooperate again with LG in the development of the latest creation of the mobile communication industry.”

“Our working relationship with PRADA is unique in its longevity and success, something no other phone company and luxury brand have been able to replicate,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “Having successfully launched two PRADA phones by LG, we look forward to collaborating further to develop premium handsets with a strong identity and the most sophisticated style.”

The PRADA phone by LG 1.0, a pioneer in the mobile phone space, was an unqualified success, selling over one million units. This premium handset combined high-end technology with a design embodying superior style. As evidence of its place in design history, the PRADA phone by LG 1.0 is part of the permanent collection in New York City’s Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) in Shanghai.

The PRADA phones by LG were avant-garde in the technology they offered to users. The PRADA phone by LG 1.0 was the world’s first touchscreen mobile phone, and the 2.0 provided an innovative mobile experience through its unique watch with Link technology, which allowed for easy access to caller ID, SMS text messages, call history, call block and two-way alarm notification.

I've been obsessed with consumer technology for about as long as I can remember, be it video games, photography, or mobile devices. If you can plug it in, I have to own it. Preparing for the day when Android finally becomes self-aware and I get to welcome our new robot overlords.

  1. Definitely not.  I had the first Prada (not sure why I ever bought it) and it sucked.  LG is not only the worst company to work with, but they make crap.  I highly recommend  that no one buy an LG phone. Buy a Galaxy Nexus. :)

    1. Don’t judge a device by its predecessor. :)

    2. That Retina Display they make for Apple seems to be doing just fine

  2. This is the hottest phone since the Nokia N9

  3. I can’t speak on their phones, but LG make some amazing TVs. They do have solid screen technology. Not as good as Samsung, but a close second.

    1. …yes, and thats what keeps me with the GALAXY S phones. Those MAGNIFICENT screens. I love my GALAXY S2 EPiC TOUCH.

  4. another lg phone no one will buy.

  5. Haha lg the worst android phone maker no one realy wants! Now where is the nexus prime or htc edge or galaxy s 3!

  6. lol…i had the original LG Prada and it was crap crapitty crapballs

  7. To be frank, the design looks nice but people seems to have problem with phones manufactured by LG. I think one of the major turn-off is that they are a little bit slow on updating their devices. I think LG should first regain the trust of its consumer before producing new devices.

  8. The Xperia line already brought the sexy to Android…

  9. Damn so many haters on phandroid. This phones is really sexy, way better looking than the Galaxy Nexus (which has epic hardware + ICS, but it’s very ugly IMO). LG designs way nicer phones than samsung

    1. I’m pretty sure Prada designed it. That seems to be their area of expertise…

    2. Epic hardware?

Certainly not in display dpi.  HTC and Apple have it beat!  (on top of that, it is pentile)
Not in display accuracy.  IPS does much better although blacks aren’t near as good.
Camera quality.  Not even close to an iPhone 4s.
3D speed.  Not even close to Samsung or iPhone 4s.
No SD card slot (also no mounting as USB thumb drive)

And what about that volume problem found in Europe..

It is still a great phone for some.  I’ll wait for a better GPU and Image sensor.  Google dropped the ball (again) in my opinion.

  10. Just about all I can point out is, I don’t know what to comment! Except needless to say, for the excellent tips which are shared within this blog.

  11. Why would any Phandroid follower consider an LG phone when their past performances have been so poor.

Perhaps they would be better off focusing on fixing their reputation and coming out with a refined product instead of just releasing another dud to make matters even worse.

Old business men have trouble adapting to the new ways of business.  With the Internet and reviews so easily available, an educated consumer doesn’t have to look long to see LG’s past.  A happy (raving) customer is much cheaper than marketing or advertising and much more effective.  LG and Google could learn a lot from Apple.  High quality materials and finish with mediocre feature list that is extremely well tested and refined.  But most importantly, no other mfg supports their customers as well as Apple.

I don’t want to hear Nexus either.  Their are reports of the G1 running ICS.  Google won’t even release ICS for their N1.

Google will never solve the OS fragmentation.  Their isn’t even pressure for the mfg to solve it either.  The business model/plan of the big 5 (Samsung, HTC, Motorolla, LG, Sony) simply don’t allow for it.

Anyone hoping for big changes on this front in the new year?
