HTC Releases Formal Statement Regarding DropBox Agreement

18

Not that we didn’t already know this, but HTC has formed a partnership with DropBox that will allow them to preinstall the cloud-enabled file sharing application on all of their future smartphones. Above all that, all HTC device owners will get 5GB of free storage, 3GB more than the standard. They didn’t clarify whether or not existing users would be getting the same deal, as well. We also don’t know when this begins, though their wording suggests it’ll be immediate. We’re reaching out for comment to clear all of it up. [Facebook]

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. so what 2GB data limit.

    1. 2Gb is still kind of a lot.

  2. Good move. Now, drop that beats audio gimmicks.

  3. This would be the right kind of bloatware, if such is possible. Good for Dropbox!

    1. i would much rather prefer this over maintaining files on SD cards (pending if you can download local copies and keep them there). however, i’ve got 50GB courtesy of box and touchpad. what gives!?!?! 5gb pffft

  4. Um, dropbox gives all Android user 5gb through the Android app.

    1. Really, not I

      1. If you go to the Market it says it right in the description.

        1. I’m in the US and it’s 2 GB and nothing in the market about it being 5

        2. You mean box.net, not Dropbox

          1. You’re so right, my mistake.

  5. the extra 3GB is only for 12 months which IMO is utterly and extremely LAME.

  6. I switched from Cyanogen 7 to a Sense 3.5 based ROM yesterday and received the 3GB of extra space.

  7. This is a good idea. There are a number of apps that should come default on all android phones. Swype, dropbox, readitlater, mint, and espn scorecenter to name a few.

  8. dropbox is the best cloud sharing!

  9. I have Drop as well. It’s good. I like it. But I’m very much against pre-installed apps on any phone. It’s @&-*$! bloat and it should be illegal! There are many people that root JUST for that reason…to get rid of it!

This is a shameless “sellout” by HTC. I wonder what percentage of their deal with Drop we the consumer are getting out of this? I’ll be waiting by my mailbox for the check from HTC!…Yeah right!

    1. Don’t be a baby. This is Dropbox, for fuckssake, not Sprint Nascar. You were gonna download it anyway.

  10. You’re right. I was going to download it anyway. But that’s just me. I’m sure their are plenty of people out there that hate Dropbox and don’t want the crap on their phone.

I respect what you’re saying. I do see your point. But not everybody likes everything and we shouldn’t be forced to take something we don’t want, didn’t ask for, and don’t need.
