Disney Mobile Announces A Pair of New Android Powered Smartphones

19

Who gives a rat’s behind about the Nexus Prime when you could the newly announced Disney DM011SH and DM010SH Android powered smartphones. I must say, I didn’t even know Disney had a mobile department but apparently things work a little differently out there in Japan. The DM010SH could be considered Disney’s premium Android of the two, featuring a 4-inch 960×540 qHD display, 1GHz processor and an 8MP rear camera. The Disney DM011SH is a water-proof slider (perfect for rides down Splash Mountain) featuring a 3.4-inch display and high res 854×480, 1GHz processor and 8MP camera. Both devices will be running on a modified Android 2.3 Gingerbread, themed up to the nines according to Disney’s standards. The devices will also come in various colors like Minnie pink, Donald white and Mickey black. Pricing has yet to be revealed but expect both devices to launch sometime towards the end of the year. Strangest part about all this? Steve Jobs is actually on Disney’s board of directors.

I've been obsessed with consumer technology for about as long as I can remember, be it video games, photography, or mobile devices. If you can plug it in, I have to own it. Preparing for the day when Android finally becomes self-aware and I get to welcome our new robot overlords.

I remember reading somewhere that steve jobs never really attended any of disney’s meetings. I guess shit happens if you don’t attend meetings. :P

  5. Wonder if it comes with a Naughty Princesses app?

  6. Say what you will, I know our girls will love this. If it hits the US it’ll be a best seller.

  7. Sounds like a Mickey Mouse operation if you ask me:X

  8. This…. is the gayest shit I have ever seen…..

typo chris. you might have to read it again.

  10. I had to check my calendar because I assumed this was an April Fools joke.

What next, Pepsi and Coke bringing out smartphones on competing OS?

  11. This Disney Mobile is fail for me, no money for now. I wish I could get this one, my daughter really get sick of it! Anyone have it already? I’m trying to keep all my money just for this. Thanks!

Chris, I’m guessing you don’t check the Phandroid archives often. The first Disdroid was reported here sometime last year.

  13. Someone finally comes out with a slider with a physical number pad, and it’s this. Why can’t one be release from a decent manufacturer, on a decent carrier, without all this after market stuff?

  14. Disney has been making phones in Japan for years. There was a short (failed) attempt to break into the US market with Disney character branded phones as well as an ESPN phone back when Nokia ruled the mobile phone space.

  15. They need a Disney parks app, not a cell phone.

  16. Wonder why they try to release a gay-ish phone color. These will not increase the market, because only girl and gay is about to buy this kind of phone. I’m sure some of the toolbar icons are same too.

  17. No man will buy this except gays, color are for gays and girls. I will keep on laughing when I saw one holding this phone, just like what I saw on icons for iPad there are lots of girlish icons.

  18. Oh looks like this Nexus Prime Disney DM011SH is only good for kiddie’s right? With its girlish color and design, maybe the icons for windows here are also girlish.
