Today some Italian website called AndroidUP (we’ve never heard of it, either) got hold of a picture they are claiming to be the Samsung GT-I9220, a rumored upcoming smartphone from Samsung featuring a 5-inch Super AMOLED Plus display. Well, I have some disappointing news for you. That’s not a Super AMOLED Plus display, and that most definitely isn’t the Samsung GT-I9220. No, despite several sites including Engadget picking up the story, what were are looking at here is no more that the 5-inch Samsung Galaxy S WiFi (along with its slightly smaller sibling). We can even pinpoint the exact location of the picture. It was taken at this year’s Mobile World Congress, where we went hands-on with the personal media player. Hate to burst your bubble, folks.

By the specs, this GT-I9220 could be my next phone, though from the picture it doesn’t seem to be an OLED screen, compared to the real OLED screen on the left, the bigger one seems to have some backlight bleed on the top “black” status bar, and white text doesn’t seem as bright as the smaller screen…
Lets hope it’s just a prototype, and the final product will be real OLED screen with that reported specs and not pentile matrix OLED ;)
Also still waiting for NFC since Galaxy S II so hope this get’s it..

Yep, this is Galaxy player. I think GT-I9220 will have 4.3″ HD screen. Someone must have mistyped screen size to 5.3″ when this was floating around medias. The original source had it as 4.3″ HD.

5″ display is sweet. get rid of the bezel and capacitive buttons and do an edge to edge display and give me a phone with ice cream sammmmich and you have a winner.
When will these companies get that some of us in America want a big ass/tablet damn it!
