Android Market Bug Leaving Developers Underpaid for App Sales

5

There’s a nasty little Google bug that’s been going around for about a week now in Android that’s leaving app developers underpaid for app purchases. Turns out this is a widespread issue where some developers are reporting that they’re being underpaid by as much as half of their app orders. Google is well aware of the issue and they’ve promised a fix for this bug very “soon.”

Google hasn’t been able to identify exactly what the problem was or given an ETA on the fix but they assure developers that they will be credited for missing app purchases once a solution has been found.

    tl;dr android market ftw!

  2. I purchased two apps in the past week and was charged less than the amount originally shown for each. In app listings, the price appears as one amount, but when you look at the details of the app, the price is lower. In my case, prices paid were $9.99 and $2.95, and the originally listed prices were something unusual like $13.66 and $3.62. The occurred on the phone only – prices in the web version of the market on my desktop remained consistent, at the higher prices.

Both developers are in countries other than mine, but neither price had the typical tilde indicating an approximate price after currency conversion. It’s almost as if no currency conversion took place for the actual transaction, and I was charged the numerical amount in the original currency, but in US Dollars.

If you believe this to be the case I’d shy away from buying any Japanese developed apps for a while. ;)

  3. Is this where developers will see “Order cancelled by Google”. Those have been pissing me off so much. I have honestly been getting more of those than actual sales.

  4. well, devs can send an email to google tech support, and wait a few days for a totally irrelevant response to fix the issue, resend an email back explaining issue again, and maybe in a few days get a reply telling them to say, maybe, reboot device, or reload app, then try google community forums for more help. bwahahahahahhahaha google support is horrid.
