Toshiba Thrive Gains Root Access

6

If you were one of the chubby chasers who found yourself taking home a Toshiba Thrive, you may be pleased to know that the device has been rooted – just not COMPLETELY. The guys over at TabletROMs discovered an exploit on the Thrive and from there, the guys from ThriveForums picked up the ball and finally gained Super User permissions on the tablet.

So while the stock ROM on the Thrive is rooted and can run rooted apps, developers still haven’t been able to gain R/W access to the system directory which makes deleting apps that came pre-installed on the device possible. Interestingly enough, Toshiba actually built the software to flash the stock recovery upon reboot making a custom recovery and custom ROMs a non-possibility as well. Super user and root access is always the first step so here’s hoping the devs manage to crack this chunky monkey soon enough.

  1. Every once in a while, you read something and say to yourself “what ?” … all I am going to say is that I am not sure what the reference “chubby chasers” has to do with people who bought one of these.. And although I can think of 2 different meanings to the term.. neither sounds good to me.. (but each their own I suppose).. Still at this point.. even after I have written this.. please don’t explain.. I don’t think I want to know.

    1. The tablet is fat. Chubby chasers like fat chicks. Therefore chubby chasers should like this tablet because its fat. Like the fat chicks that they like.

  2. So Chris, I was modding that PSP I stole from you and I think I bricked it. You can have it back now.

    1. It was a crappy PSP Go. You can keep it =p

  3. The Thrive rocks, I love mine! I sold my Transformer for it and haven’t looked back, way to go Thrive developers! Using the chasing logic, people who chase iPad’s are anorexic chasers :D Toshiba Thrive=Fairly good looking, smart, useful, well endowed. Ipad2=Anorexic, blonde, looks like it’s near death, may go into hissy fits at any time lol
