Motorola ATRIX 4G Receives Gingerbread Update

13

If you haven’t heard, AT&T’s finally released the Gingerbread upgrade for their Motorola ATRIX 4G. It’s a 160MB download. Not only do you get the absolute latest version of MOTOBLUR – which we think is pretty damn good, relatively speaking – you’ll also get the ability to sideload applications, something AT&T restricted previously but have since changed their stance on. We’re still searching for confirmation that this one unlocks the device’s bootloader, but in the meantime be sure to grab it from Motorola’s site (OTW) and apply it to your device today. Remember, you need to be on a stock build – no root or unlocked bootloader – in order to get this one. [Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. I wonder how long it’ll take the Bionic to get GB?

    1. it already has it smartass

  2. The update went smoothly for me, and it is a definite improvement in the UI and the feature department. Unfortunately, Moto still doesn’t understand the business user, and has crippled their email client using Exchange by forcing all photos for contacts to come only from social networking sites. Now how dumb is that? Once again, they build great hardware, but their software always seems to come up just short of the goal line !!

  3. Doesn’t look like the bootloader is unlocked. fastboot oem unlock fails.

  4. I hope it doesn’t take 3/4 months for Bell to roll out GB for its Atrix phones

  5. What about the kernel : 2.6.32 or 2.6.35 ?

  6. Any news on gingerbread for UK Atrix? …. they were supposed to come out at the same time

  7. You can now remove the bloatware as well! Excellent!

  8. Ok, nice job but what about the Atrix users in Europe (the UK specifically), when do we expect the update considering Motorola promised a ‘simultaneous’ US and European update pushout???

Im on T-Mobile but they haven’t even acknowledged the Gingerbread availability.

  9. I just downloaded this update, and it’s fantastic! Completely new user interface that is much cleaner looking and also runs a lot smoother.
I love the new customizable dock, too. Old one was ugly as hell.
The camcorder and camera have much improved functionality as well as a better zoom in/out feature.
I can truly tell that Gingerbread utilizes much more of the Atrix’s potential, as EVERYTHING loads faster and all of the animations are very smooth.
I don’t really take advantage of Motoblur all that much, but if you’re a social networking freak, I can definitely see how they improved it.
    Nice job Motorola.

  10. I think I did the fastboot properly but not sure…
