Another case manufacturer has outed their new silicone cases for the Galaxy S II, and like the folks we saw before them, they out names for the Galaxy S II on Sprint, Verizon and AT&T (Within, Function and Attain, respectively). This doesn’t give us much more than we already know, but it does reaffirm beliefs that the American variants will all have similar, if not identical, builds. As we see more and more evidence, such as today’s outing of AT&T’s variant, we believe we’re close to a launch. We’re hearing whispers of July for at least one carrier, if it means anything. Nope I’m running on hopes and dreams but it only makes sense seeing as how it appears that we aren’t getting a standard SGS2 like the big 3.
Or, Samsung believes that the AT&T Buyout of T-Mo, which will mean the end of T-Mo’s 3G and 4G Bands, is in the offing. Why offer a phone that will end up as 2G at best, meaning a LOT of pissed customers!
The phone is rumored to have both bands so if thats the case then that phone will continue to sell through it’s shelf life(which is pretty short nowadays anyway).
But I completely understand your point and it wouldnt surprise me if that ends up being true. Sadly.

I keep seeing that TMo’s phones will contain ATT bands, but everything released doesn’t have them. I think TMo just got the HTC Flyer without them, as well. Oh well, still hoping the merger fails hard.
I don’t have any real inside information, I’m just basing this on reports I’ve heard from the Chinese, as well as blog reports stating that the Attain, Function, and Within will be the same form factor. My Chinese sources haven’t let me down before, so I hope they dont this time either or I will have some very unhappy customers.

Hopefully the crappy names will lead salespeople and everyone else to call these “Galaxy S 2…(for [insert carrier’s name])” instead of the crappy names, so as to ensure there are actually some good sales of these devices. This in turn may lead the carriers to let the manufacturers have more control for the sake of speed to market in the future. We can hope.
