Verizon is gearing up to send a Gingerbread update to the next member of the Droid family, with the OS upgrade to Android 2.3 prepped for delivery to the Motorola Droid 2 Global. This follows the Motorola Droid X, which recently received a bump up in Android version itself. Following the model set up by that handset, a select group of D2G users will receive the update this week as part of a “soak” test to work out any final kinks in the software. The update should become available for all D2G users shortly after. Note that this update is not aimed at users of the original Droid 2, and we have no word on whether or not that handset will also receive Gingerbread along with its world-phone sibling.

Droid 2 should receive this update…not happy with the upgrade communication plans either.
AWESOME – I rock the Droid 2 Global and am STOKED for this. Thanks for post guys, make sure and check me out at http://www.411droid.com — I use u guys as source quite a bit, love your site, keep up the good work!
WTF! D2G, but not D2 or R2D2 which should have been easier to port Gingerbread to (no global radio). That’s really some BS if it only comes to D2G – better be seeing it released on the D2 / R2D2 as well.
I know a lot of people with the regular Droid 2. The update better come for it.
This kind of BS is the one of the top reasons why folks root and rely on the dev community more than corporate.
Cant we get a readable PDF for the enhancements
Joehenrymayfield,The readable PDF is available on Motorola’s site, and is linked to from the “via DroidLife” link in the post above.
