Buy.com Listing Lenovo’s New IdeaPadK1 Honeycomb Tablet

18

Apparently Lenovo is scheduled to launch their new IdeaPadK1 (LePad) Honeycomb tablet next month and from the looks of it, Buy.com is one of the retailers ready to sell with a listing of the device already in place.

In case the IdeaPadK1 is news to you (I never heard of it until now) this is Lenovo’s 10.1-inch, Android 3.0 (also lists as 3.1?) Honeycomb device with 32GB of internal storage, 1GB of RAM, 5MP rear/2MP front facing cameras and in an interesting turn of events, an Nvidia Tegra 2 processor. What’s also nice to see is a micro sd card slot for memory expansion, SIM card slot and micro HDMI out. I’m still trying to find out if this thing has a proprietary usb connection (always a deal breaker for me). Still no word on pricing from Buy.com but another online retailer, Krex, is listing the tablet at $510.

Overall, the tablet looks a bit like a chubby iPad and its one of the few tablets that will actually feature Lenovo’s custom UI over stock Android but we don’t know to what extent. I should also mention that in China, they offer a 16GB version but that was no where to found on Buy.com – yet.

I know Lenovo has quite the following here in the states and it will be interesting to see how this performs in the already growing Android tablet market. What do you guys think? Could this be a potential buy for any of you? Or do you have your hearts already set on something else?

  1. Why yes, every PC manufacturer and every phone manufacturer is going to have their own honeycomb tablet by the end of the year.

    1. that sounds good to me because then all the prices will drop will stock becomes saturated. i cannot justify a tablet right now at the current prices. I know some will say that one is paying for up to date tech, but I still want the prices lower or they can keep their up to date tech on the shelves.

  2. I’m waiting on a 2nd gen Android tablet with an improved screen and higher resolution.  All these ashy ass washed out LCD screens are for the birds.

    1. 1280 x 800 on a 10″ screen is “ashy ass washed out” ?

      1. Ashy and washed out as in piss poor contrast and viewing angles.  AMOLED vs. Everything else.

Edit: As for the resolution, I have no real problem with current resolution but I know that higher resolution is about the same distance away as lets say an AMOLED tablet screen.

        1. Transformer uses an IPS panel with 178 degree viewing angle… Maybe I’m biased bc I have one, but I also don’t think I’ve seen a single review rate the display vibrance anything short of stellar.

          1. My man, I have a Vibrant attached to my hand and an iPad that sits on my lap.  There is a HUGE difference between the two when it comes to contrast and viewing angle.

I could go round and round with you apparently but I’m gonna stop here and say that blacks on AMOLED beat any LCD’s and dark images and videos do not fade out when held at an angle like an LCD.

I would be the biased one.  You just think the IPS panel is good enough.

          2. @facebook-599383691:disqus You guys need to see the displays on the Samsung Galaxy 10.1 Tab. I don’t know what it is…. but good gawd its right up there with AMOLED. Its beautiful.

          3. @Gamercore:disqus Really??  You know where I’m comin from man, is it ashy like the an IPiSS screen?
My Android tab will in fact be a Samsung and if they got “Vibrant” screen then I’m sold sooner than later.

          4. The iPad 2 we have in the office looks like crap compared to the transformer sitting side by side. I’m not sure what you’re comparing to when you characterize these as ashy and washed out.

          5. @scott i dont know how much you care about your televisions contrast but while the best of the best 150,000:1 ratio’d LCD may look good, it pales in comparison next to a L.E.D. LCD TV with local dimming.

Same thing with with phones and will be with tablets. XOOM is no exception but i have not seen the Eee in person yet. I dont know what else to tell u.

          6. I’m not arguing the merits of Super AMOLED, I know it’s a great display… I just think if you’re not going to get a tablet until it has the same S-AMOLED display with the same PPI as your Vibrant, you’re going to be waiting a long time.

          7. it’s a pls screen. I’ve been waiting to get a transformer but now I’m kinda thinking about waiting for 2nd gen tablet, mainly because of the screen ppi. I’m not saying the current crop is bad but you can see the pixels. This tablet does look pretty good though at this price when consider it’s got a sim card slot.

  3. Is this the tablet part of the LePad U1 they’ve been touting for two years at CES?  I wonder if they’re still planning on bringing the netbook kit to this, as well.

  4. Eff these stupid over priced tabs… I want my phone/tab hybrid already

  5. it’s a pls screen. I’ve been waiting to get a transformer but now I’m kinda thinking about waiting for 2nd gen tablet, mainly because of the screen ppi. 6. hey chris my comments applied seem to be out of order…. am I missing something?
