Google Music App Updated – Adds Much Needed New Feature

43

Guess what, folks? Google has updated their newly launched Google Music app on the Market! Why does that have me pumped? Because with the update comes one major change. Song deletion.

Before, it was impossible to delete a cached song off your sd card once you “pinned it” for offline play. Sounds like something Google should have thought of before hand, don’t ya think? I’m still waiting for the ability to delete songs off of Google serv- I’m sorry, “the cloud” using the music app but I guess you can’t have it all.

So if you didn’t get the update notification pushed to your phone yet, feel free to jump into your Android Market and update the app or by clicking here.

  1. They really need to add podcasts in Google Beta Music

    1. Agreed.  Listen appears to be dead and unsupported, but they could more than make up for that if they delivered an android/cloud-based podcatcher that let me switch from device to device while always preserving precisely where I left off.  I can dream, can’t I?

      1. Oh god, I would love it if they updated Listen… It’s been half broken ever since it came out and yet it’s still the best podcast app in the market. Sigh.

        1. I’ve heard really things about Doggcather (https://market.android.com/details?id=com.snoggdoggler.android.applications.doggcatcher.v1_0&feature=search_result) but I have yet to put down the money for it. It’s kind of pricey at 6.99. Either way, what I really want is continuous syncing between my phone and any computer I happen to be using.

        2. I tried dogcatcher and all of the other podcatchers a while ago but none of them really held up to Listen. Oh well. And I agree, mobile/pc syncing would be great!

    2. My number one wish for Google Music.

  2. Google takes a while to add delete to their vocabulary.  It took a year or two to get that feature in Gmail.

  3. Still waiting for email:(…

  4. I just want a f***in’ invite!

    1. Got mine this morning :-P

      1. Mine came last night.

        1. Do you know what the limit is for song lengths, it is currently taking my 2 hour long podcast from my iTunes. I thought it could only be around one hour.

          1. One problem is that GM adds EVERYTHING in a designated folder. As a result it uploaded an entire ebook I had laying around. the chapters were each over an hour long.

  5. I am with you Chris, I have quite a few duplicates and would like to clean up my library!

  6. PowerAMP. That is all.

    1. I actually switched from poweramp to the new music app. It’s really nice~!

  7. WHAT’S THE FUCKING POINT? IT’S ONLY FOR TABLETS. damn Google come on just let us download your media player. cause I need to organize my music and videos so I won’t have to use my Windows Media player.

    1. Ummm, its also for smartphones dawg. Why do you think they updated the music app?

    2. I just bought a new laptop and won’t be putting any music on it because I can just access it through google music.

    3. Yah, you can use it on a regular phone too – I use it on my LG Optimus V……although I too have not got an invite to the service yet…..geh…..

    4. It’s not only for tablets. It works on my Evo flawlessly.

    5. Yo, dawg. I gots this shiz on mah Evo.

  8. One thing I really haven’t seen brought up. After I got my invite and signed up it said Google Music was going to be free for a limited time.  How much is it going to be after the limited time?

    1. Nobody knows… o_O  I’m sure it will be competitively prices against Amazon’s service though. 50GB’s for like $40 a year or something.

    2. My guess is that it’s like GVoice calling in GMail – it’s free as long as they can keep it that way, but they aren’t making promises.  I would be really surprised if they start charging after offering it for free, but anything’s possible.

    3. If they were smart they’d get some music contracts signed and keep their services free if/when you buy music through Google.

    4. I’m guessing it will be priced like google picasa/gmail is when you need extra space over the ‘free’ space is. aka you get 1GB free with picasa, and then you pay for the rest. Google storage prices are very cheap, ie 200GB for $50 a year, Check out

  9. As usual I have nothing intelligent to add, … but I did get my invite, yesterday!  It feels like I’m going to the prom!

  10. got mine yesterday, uploaded about 20 CD’s

  11. oh, and BTW – I’ve used it on my HTC Incredible …

  12. I really want my invitation. :(  My friend got his yesterday.  We both send our requests at the same time.  Are they maybe doing it by phone?  If that’s the case, my Droid 2 Global is never going to get it.

    1. I sent it day one but I doubt they are cross referenving phones. Tablets perhaps, but I got invited and I’m running D1 and the wife’s Dinc,

  13. Just got my invite this evening while I was out for my run. Saw the gmail notification pop-up on my phone and made my best time running home. :P

  14. I seriously don’t understand how any of you can even use this app. There is no way to designate which music goes in to the “library” so it’s nearly impossible to avoid downloaded sounds and ring tones. Also, I have an HTC Incredible w/ 8gb phone storage but only 2gb sd storage so I keep my music on my phone and there are only two free apps I know of that search phone storage for tunes and this isn’t one of them (those apps are Songbird and HTC’s default music app). Also, this app is oddly very slow and it isn’t listing my “cloud” music (maybe I’m doing something wrong). I really want a decent free music app but I have a feeling it’s going to be a while until this guy becomes usable.

    1. Jeremy, try turning your phone off and restarting it. This will force the music app to refresh and subsequently pull your newly loaded music files from the cloud.

  16. I weep for those of us outside the US, we keep getting sidelined every single time,it’s not fair Google,NOT FAIR

  17. It would be great if those of us outside America could at least install the app even if they can’t use the Music Beta features.

    1. trust me, you’re not missing out.

  18. I hope the next update allows you to upload music to the cloud from the phone. My goal is to not have any music physically on  my phone. Also the widget is horrible. It needs to be revamped.

  19. Not sure if this has been posted or not but you can delete Albums or Songs in the interface on the website.  I had to do it when I tried uploading my music and all the untagged music I had came up as unknown.

  20. Which copy of a song do I delete? There are duplicates from the free music that came on my xoom and the free music that came with the google music account.
