Google Is Looking Into A Joint Venture With Skype

20

Google made quite a splash when they finally unveiled their long awaited Google Talk video calling feature on the latest version of Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread. Well, it looks like they may be looking to expand a little more on that idea with Google apparently in talks for entering into a joint venture with Skype.

If Google is planning on doing anything with the VoIP company they better act fast seeing how there are reports that Facebook may be looking into an all out purchase of Skype in the near future. You can only imagine what Skype integration with Facebook would mean for the company social media giant. A Skype deal would likely be valued at somewhere around $3 – $4 billion dollars.

I just hope Google doesn’t let this one slip through their fingers like they did with TAT mobile UI design company a few months back. RIM snatched them out from under Google when they bought them up in December of last year.

  1. so that means that Qik will belong to facebook?

    1. Facebook can have QIK.

  2. Oh hell no! I don’t want Facebook anywhere near my Skype info. I will kill my Skype account so fast if that goes through. Facebook will never have my info for their own personal gain.

    1. Have to agree with you on that. The day that skype and facebook team up is the day i forget all about skype!!

      1. Agreed. Facebook is the devil

        1. This

    2. Yeah, that was what I got out of the article too. “Huh, skype and google, that could be coo- FACEBOOK?!”

    3. Funny… I said the same thing about Ebay buying them… I’d actually use it again if Facebook bought them.

  3. In other news google furthers their conquest for world domination.

  4. Google seems really incompetent in voip and video calling judging by the progress of google talk.

Why no standalone client for all androids?
Why not voip for the nexus one?
    Why no file transfers?
Why no integration with the contact list?

    1. I agree. Google Talk could be so much more but it’s like they don’t even try. I’d still rather Google have a deal with Skype (or buy it for that matter) than FB own it.

      1. Yep, and how about them purchasing Gizmo5 (VOIP provider) still haven’t seem them do anything with that yet.

Better yet (off topic) what happened to BLINDTYPE!!! They bought BLINDTYPE before the company even got their product out to the public and to this day I still haven’t seem them release it. It’s almost like they buy shit just to keep other people from buying them.

        1. Oh man, I almost forgot about Blindtype. Hopefully, they bring it into Icecream Sandwich at I/O.

  5. Facebook comes anywhere near Skype and I also delete my account. Facebook is the bane of the internet.

    1. Kind of silly if you ask me. FB is known for it’s lack of security and privacy which is the primary reason people use Skype, encryption and it not being Facebook. How a buyout would work is beyond me.

    2. Says you, me and the guy from wikileaks. Say no to facebook kiddies.. and stay in school.

  6. This might mean a bidding war between Google and Facebook.

  7. Ehh still to this day im actually pissed that Google didn’t acquire TAT. The UI was beautiful but oh well hopefully Ice Cream gets some nice UI tweaks.

  8. TAT sucks. All we ever saw from them were “concepts” and I didn’t see any of them becoming reality. They designed the original Android interface and it sucked, too. Look at what they did for RIM recently and it’s not a big deal. They are an overhyped company.

  9. If Skype goes to FB I’m canceling my account (if they ever let me do it). I’m staying as far as I can from FB even if this makes me look somewhat like an outcast nowadays.
