There was never any question the Amazon’s exclusive release of Angry Birds Rio was little more than a marketing ploy to drive traffic to their newly established Android Appstore, but it looks like Rovio won’t be putting all those eggs in one basket after all. Merely a week after Amazon launched the app (which is still free through this week), Angry Birds Rio has come catapulting into the Android Market as a free download.
Now, Amazon does still offer exclusive ad-free paid versions of various Angry Bird titles, but Rovio no doubt didn’t want to miss out on the millions of dollars of ad revenue they have been banking through the Android Market. If you have had some aversion to grabbing this title through Amazon, head over to the Google’s market and grab it now.

Downloading now. Go angry birds!
I find it amazing as well as rather disturbing that there has been practically NO mention anywhere of the fact that to even download Amazons crAppstore crApp one MUST turn off protect mode & allow download from unknown sources. This is a huge FAIL; I wonder how many remember to turn this back on? Then there’s the little matter of MUST keep their app installed… ok, I get it, great marketing strategy sure, but I have to STAY signed in as well? wtf?? This app is ALWAYS running, even if I’m not surfing the Appstore!? As much as I LOVE Angry Birds (& Rio is fantastic btw) I will NOT be forced to endure Amazons marketing BS–uninstalled & now boycotting Amazon. Much rather pay even double the price for an app rather than put up with all this superfluous nonsense.
