Just as we caught word that the LG Revolution would be Verizon’s first 4G device to feature Voice over LTE calling, news comes that MetroPCS wants to join the party, too. And who will be bringing the functionality to the smaller-scale US network? HTC. Neither the manufacturer or carrier had anything to say on the matter, as it was the GSM Association technology director who blabbed off about it.
Engadget points out a pressing reason why Metro needs to move to VoLTE as quick as possible: their 4G LTE and 3G CDMA are operating over the same AWS bandwidth, meaning if they want to keep their network from choking out they need to divert strain in one way or another. Are we looking at a rebranded phone in the same vein as the Inspire 4G and Thunderbolt? Or something totally new?
