The Acer Liquid Metal that leaked the other day has apparently been confirmed by a representative of Acer’s in the UK, so says ElectricPig. Some new details have been confirmed: they say it “features a metal backplate,” confirming the suspicions of many saying the entire phone doesn’t look to be entirely metal.
Also confirmed (and what we heard before) is Android 2.2, though there was no word on the apparent inclusion of a new custom skin on top of that. None of the other specs listed in the original report (3.6-inch WVGA screen and an 800MHz CPU) can be confirmed at this time.According to this confirmation, we should also be seeing this phone sometime in October, though there was no word on region (we’re thinking UK, for starters, considering the origin of the report) or price. We should be hearing a lot more soon as October’s just around the corner.
they may not have confirmed any additional UI changes, but seeing as how all current acer android phones will soon run acer ui 4.0(aka StreamUI) it’s quite likely they will use it on this phone too.
The good thing about Acer UI on their current phones is that it can easily be turned off and switched to standard Android UI. I am hoping that this is the case for this phone as well (while the UI is not bad, it is far superior to iOS, it is quite slow and completely not-Android. I used it for a couple of hours and ended up going back to stock). If you can’t switch it off, reviews for this phone probably won’t be very good.
I can’t help but wonder how Apple’s going to feel about the use of the term ‘liquid metal’ now that they have such a large stake in the technology.
