Motorola Droid R2-D2 Boot Animation Uncovered

11

With every cool little bit of news about the Motorola Droid R2-D2 the dormant geek inside me stirs a little. If you loved Star Wars as much as I did growing up you probably understand, but to be blunt carrying a Star Wars themed Android smartphone isn’t exactly shouting from the mountain tops “I am the coolest cat you know.” No, far from it really. But if you want to get a little bit of Star Wars joy every time you turn on your phone without carrying the baggage of a geek-tastic deco on your handset (not that there is anything wrong with that) the official boot animation for the Empire Strikes Back edition Droid has made its way to the internet.

This may be hands down the coolest boot animation I have seen yet, with a classic Star Wars opening over a star field followed by Artoo’s twitchy head as the phone boots. There is also a sound file to go along with it, though most users don’t seem to be having luck with it. If you want to download the animation and install it, full instructions are over at DroidLife in the source link below.

  2. Worked for me , Droid 1 , used CM (Clockwork Mod) and installed from hold “x” mode .
My phone boots so fast that I don’t get to see R2 , just a top pf the head , maybe .

  3. So that’s a droid x they installed it on right? Would be more impressive if it was on the r2-d2. D2

  4. im sooo getting this on my droid 1

  5. hahahha put it on my nexus one! great stuff now to figure out how to put in the boot sound!

  6. I love Star Wars as much as the next geek but come on! The Motorola R2 Droid is way over the top. Imagine having to carry one around tied to a 2-year contract. No thanks.

  7. Joseph, I’ll take the R2 you don’t want. ;) I cannot wait to upgrade.

  8. My nexus boots up so fast I don’t even see the whole animation. Haha.

  9. Same here Joshua. Anyone know if it can be slowed down?

  10. Skunkpbguy, I’ll keep my Rooted D1 and add all of the leaked R2D2 “exclusive” material. I guess I’ll have an R2D1 Droid.

  11. DON’T DO IT!!!!! DON’T INSTAL THE BOOT SOUND!!! I have the droid r2d2 and the startup noise is so annoying. Its super loud and I can’t figure out how to make it go away (I turned the volume on silent, I turned the sd card notifications off and nothing works). Don’t get the startup sound unless you want to be driven to insanity and have every single person within a mile of you know that you just turned your phone on. I actually have to wrap a blanket around my phone when turning it on to mute the noise. It. Is. Awful.
