Yesterday’s Leaked FroYo Build for G2 Reveals New Qualcomm Chipset
We hadn’t seen it for ourselves – as we’re not the type to crack open source files once they hit the internet – but apparently the firmware build that we saw leaked yesterday for the T-Mobile G2 held a couple of more secrets. Namely, Cyanogen discovered references to Qualcomm’s MSM7x30 chipset, though there is no word on the specific version. This is important because not only will this bring about native 720p 30FPS video recording and playback, improved 3D performance, and more, but we could also be seeing support for dual-mode HSPA+ and LTE, depending on the specific version.
That doesn’t mean all of these features will be donning the T-Mobile G2 at launch, however, as the phone has to be equipped with the hardware and unlocked through software, but we can at least get a bit giddy over the sheer possibility of even half of the features that the new chipset will bring. At least we know this will be their most efficient chipset yet, in terms of battery life and performance trade-off, but even if that’s all there is to look forward to, then I have no complaints.
