Just a Month Later, Samsung Sells Over 500,000 Galaxy S Phones in South Korea

9

This is the third time we’ve reported on Samsung’s sales in South Korea, but this time it’s starting to make us realize just how successful this phone could be. Even in America, 500,000 units sold is a very impressive number if the device’s name doesn’t start with an “i” (and isn’t the newly released [for Sprint] Motorola i1). Samsung must be ecstatic to reach that number as they – in partnership with exclusive Korean carrier SK Telecom – have been able to get that many Samsung Galaxy S phones into the hands of paying customers in their home country (where 200,000 units is considered a huge success).

To be precise, it took them 33 days to achieve the feat and they show no signs of slowing down. The device is being launched to nearly every market around the globe, with Americans still waiting for it to launch on the two big CDMA carriers on this corner of it (Sprint’s Samsung Epic 4G variant is expected to be out sometime this August).

KT isn’t just ecstatic about the results that will keep their current subscriber count up for a long time coming: they’ve adopted over 200,000 new customers throughout it all. It’ll be fun to revisit these numbers after another 30 days whisk on by as we expect Samsung’s momentum to get even stronger with time.

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. Well, iPhone sold 800k in S. Korea (acc. to what KT claims). Looking at non-smartphones, the number goes more and more stupid. “Yu-Na’s Haptic” (Korean S5230 Star variant)sold 1.55M, Corby sold 1M, etc.

This (my) country is crazy about smartphones, and 200k is not a huge number, certainly. Even Omnia 2 sold 700,000.

  2. samsung galaxy S is just one android phone in South Korea, you have so many other android phones released in South Korea recently and bada phone is also recently released. WinPhone7 yet to be released. Iphone will go to obscurity in South Korea soon like it always was.

  3. @chocoberry – yeah, but look at time in which they sold that much – 800000 from november to july… for galaxy s it’s 500000 in just one month (in country with 49 millions people, if you render it at usa population it would be over 3 millions in one month – that’s the number of iphones 4 sold in first month, when iphone is 4th device with that brand, and samsung galaxy s is one of many available devices with android).

  4. Samsung Galaxy S is one of the best Android devices out there, i recommend everyone to give it a try, the hardware is amazing and i would have instantly dropped my Nexus One but i cant survive without froyo

  5. THUMBS UP FOR SAMSUNG!

  6. Two thumbs up for Samsung and people said it wouldn’t sell HAH!

  7. Samsung Galaxy S must be a very good phone actually, however we need to count the number of giveaways to Samsung and SK group employees.

  8. Samsung really deserves this. I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE my Vibrant and it has pretty much everything I could want from a high-end Android device. The screen’s amazing and it feels just right in my hand while the Droid X and the Evo feel a tiny bit too big to me. I’m also pretty happy that it’s launching on all 4 major US carriers, so it’ll be easier for me to recommend a phone to someone.

  9. GO SAMSUNG! WE ARE ALWAYS SUPPORTING YOU. SAMSUNG WILL RULE SMARTPHONE MARKET,THEY JUST NEED TO PUT A BIT OF MORE EFFORT INTO IT. I BELIEVE IN SAMSUNG.THEY GOT THE GUT TO ATTACK WHATEVER FIRMS,REGARDLESS OF THE HYPE SURROUNDING IT.THEY OVERTOOK SONY AND TOSHIBA,I BELIEVE THEY CAN OVERTAKE APPLE AND NOKIA TOO.
