Acer beTouch E130 Hits the FCC
It’s been a little over a month since we saw the Acer beTouch E130 at Computex, a couple of weeks since Acer made that phone and its QWERTY-less brother official, and now the device has gained FCC clearance. It may not be the device everyone’s looking for, but this shy Blackberry clone could have a lot going for itself. With a 2.6-inch QVGA screen, an exposed portrait QWERTY-keypad, 256MB of RAM, and 512MB of ROM, it’s packing itself more than a nice little punch (given its size, anyway).
Unfortunately there’s one big thing holding it back from being the device that everyone wants it to be: it’s running Android 1.6 and it’s unlikely we’ll ever see it move past that (outside of some crafty developers, possibly). If this is a form factor you’ve been looking for, though, and the Motorola Charm doesn’t do anything for you, then this is about as far as the line goes for the time being. Pricing is still up in the air, but expect it to be available sometime next month.
