We Move One Step Closer to Getting Android on the HTC HD2

6

After the HTC HD2 was announced, many people begged to get a version of the same phone with Android as the operating system backing the very attractive hardware. While the HTC EVO 4G is pretty much the “HD2 with Android” that many of you were looking for, there’s still a ton of interest to get Android onto the actual HD2 itself.

Latest developments from XDA doesn’t include a bootable GUI just yet, but the ability to play 720p HD video through the Linux kernel puts us one step closer to that end result you’ve all been waiting for. If you aren’t afraid to do it, you can try this out on your HD2 by heading over to XDA for the details.

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. This needs to be complete before my the return deadline for my new Evo 4g expires… I would love to shave a couple of millimeters off of my device and run winmo7 when I’m bored instead of having 4g/HDMI-out.

  2. I guess this would be usable with T-mobile still. I have a friend who really wants the HD2, won’t switch to Sprint and get the EVO, but would prefer to remain using and Android phone.

  3. Thats good.
Its getting somewhere but the Evo is out soon.

  4. I would rather go to Sprint than T-MO first off (and I hate to leave Verizon at all, but Sprint’s data plan is much more attractive). And even though the HD2 is a very lusty phone that I wouldn’t mind owning I think I’d rather just go straight for the Evo. Now thats if I don’t get the incredible when my contract expires…c’mon contract expire!

  5. Dude I just got the HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 BLOWS I am thinking of returning it I waited for this phone for 2 months just to be disappointed to find out I cant get this thing hacked with Android 2.2 or 2.1, Android is such a nice OS,

  6. If T-Mobile doesn’t come out with a nice Android phone soon, I may just get the HD2 and put Android on it. It may be worth it to go that route.
