If you’re not familiar with Boxee and the Boxee Box, the company describes themselves as “the best way to enjoy entertainment from the Internet and computer on your TV.” I don’t think many people would contend with the point that it’s only a matter of time before the average home entertainment system is a fully connected and integrated system with media from the web, your computer, and other machines in your home network (and the cloud).
Boxee will soon be helping people do just that:
The company will start shipping their Boxee Box with dedicated remote in the 2nd quarter of 2010 – you can check out a review of the service over on Wired. So how does this all fit into the Android world? Well, over on GDGT, Avner is hosting a Q&A about Boxee and when asked (halfway down page by rossingram) if they’ll be making an official boxee remote for the Android OS he answers:
yes. working with a developer on it. we’re not far.
I’m not sure if “not far” means they haven’t made much progress or are not far from finishing, but either way it’s getting done. So you’ll be able to control your Boxee Box from your Android phone on the comfort of your couch – lovely!
Until all this happens, here are a couple Boxee videos to hold you over:
Will you be forking over the $200 for your Boxee fix later this year?
[Thanks James!]
There is already an app called “Boxee/XBMC Remote” in the market that works perfectly with Boxee Beta. “Boxee Wifi Remote” was also just released which may be even better, but I haven’t tried it yet.
I am so all over Boxee. The Boxee Box will become a member of my household as soon as it is released. “Boxee” is the future.
lol I thought Boxxy left the internet forever.
XBMC is a lot better than Boxee and already has a great Android remote…
I tried both and Boxee Wifi Remote has a better interface:
