Congratulations To Motorola!

One friend of Phandroid also happens to be a Wall Street Journal subscriber and gave us a heads up on this: In the Marketplace section (B6) is a full page Motorola advertisement for the CLIQ and the Droid. It features quotes from sources around the web which comment on the two phones and it looks like people care what your phavorite android site has to say:

I wanted to include this for a few reasons:

  • We’ve come a LONG way in the past 2 years, from random blog to authoritative source, and I want to thank all the readers who were along for the ride and helped us get here.
  • I’m not above a little self-back patting (pat-pat)!
  • Motorola really does deserve a congrats

Not too long ago we were talking about Motorola’s handset division going under. Being spun off. Folding. Whatever you want to call it. Not only have they revived themselves, they’re now quite literally sitting on top of the smartphone world and probably helping Verizon make hundreds of millions of bucks in addition to what they’re raking in themselves. Take a look at the platform percentages and keep in mind that only Motorola Android Phones are currently running Android 2.0+… crazy right?

It started with the CLIQ, has moved to the DROID and now everyone has their eye on what Motorola will do next. They’ve already made their 2009 and just like the RAZR, their DROID/MILESTONE line will probably be profitable for at least a couple years to come simply with hardware upgrades and the mandatory Android releases.

But it isn’t just about the CLIQ or DROID. It’s about a change in thinking. It’s about a company who was BEHIND the curve committing to being IN FRONT of the curve. And now they’re riding the wave of ideology that they fully embraced. Out with the old and in with the new. And for Sanjay Jha and Motorola, Android is the new.

It’s exciting to see where Motorola is now… and even more exciting to see where they’ll take us next. The “Congratulations” in that WSJ ad couldn’t be more sincere – they’ve come a LONG way in the past 12 months and deserve a LOT of credit. I only wish I could see what their bot has on his New Year’s Resolution list!

    their, not they’re

But this is good. But for Moto and Phandroid, and hope this augurs good fortune for both for a long time.

  11. congrats Rob

  12. Congrats to MOTO, PhanDROID and ROB

  13. Nice job. Best android blog around, hopefully you’ll see some more traffic after this.

  14. Congratulations to Motorola for what exactly!! Phones running Android 2.0, surely you mean phone as the Droid afaik is pretty much the same as the Milestone. As for the Cliq/Dext head over to
    https://supportforums.motorola.com/thread/16044?tstart=0
it’s a thread full of Cliq/Dext users trying to get an answer from Motorola concerning an upgrade, it’s been going 6 weeks now and still Motorola are saying nothing.

I love this site and visit it almost daily as I am due an upgrade and have decided on an Android phone but this Motorola love-in is bull.

  15. Congratz Rob and Phandroid. I follow the blog daily and check on it many times during the day. :)

  16. Yeah, i would only half agree with patting Moto on the back. the Droid looks to be a good device, but the Cliq seems to be the red-headed stepchild. As a cliq user I am kind of disappointed that we are still on 1.5 when Moto has a device running 2.0. I know it had 1.5 when I bought it, and I knew that, but was hoping we would get an update or at least an answer on if we were. It’s great that the droid is being supported, but what about the Cliq?

  17. Congratulations General Motors.

  18. Hi Rob, if you come along Amsterdam these days, i’ll have a nice bottle of champagne to pop and toast to this! As it is, congratulations from this side of the ocean!

  19. Sure do wish the cliq would get 2.0

  20. Congratulations to both Phandroid.com and Motorola!!! Awesome job both of you!!

    Wish you the best!

  21. haha thats rad! I’ve been reading for a while now. Congrats, this blog is a great resource. You do a great job

  22. Amazing! Simply amazing that Motorola would buy a full page ad quoting someone who says nice things about them!

“Motorola makes crap! I love my LG!”
    -Bears Superfan

(you my permission to buy a full page ad and quote me on that ;^)

  23. Congrats to Rob, Phandroid, and Motorola, and Google. I go on the site multiple times a day.

  24. Well it is really exiting that HTC and Motorola have let the charge and this site of course helps spreading the word, which is both exciting and helpful. Having said all of that, I am absolutely frustrated that my Moto Cliq is still only running Android 1.5 and TMob is not giving any hope that this might be changing anytime soon. Motorola and TMob really have to find a way to keep the Android software on their phones up to date. People will put up with outdated software only for so long.

  25. Does this mean that Rob is becoming a tech news superstar? congrats on the global recognition! If only I could get that on my blog…. someday. i did just start it anyway. no i am not gonna plug it. not til it is more established anyway.

  26. Just don’t let it get to your head.
    ;)

  27. “just like the RAZR, they’re DROID/MILESTONE line”

    THEIR not THEY’RE

Please fix, it’s driving me nuts ;)

  28. This is excellent news it sounds!
Did they need your permission Rob for this?

  29. They ran this AD in the Financial Times and Business Week as well. They are pushing for corporate business. Smart. Not too many teens can afford a $40 a month data plan nor convince the folks to spring for it so they can facebook all day.
