Fast charging has become the new frontier for better battery life. Manufacturers haven’t figured out how to make batteries last longer, so instead they’re trying to improve the charging process. It’s a band-aid for a bigger problem, but for now, it works. In the past, we’ve seen phones that can get to 80% charged in 30-40 minutes. Chinese manufacturer Oppo says they can do better than that.
Oppo announced a new quick charging technology called SuperVOOC at MWC. If Oppo’s claims are to be believed, you’ll be able to charge your phone in 15 minutes. For real. We’re talking 0-100% in 15 minutes. These results came from a 2,500 mAh battery, so it will take a little longer for most phones. The SuperVOOC technology works with standard microUSB and Type-C cables.
The bad news is this technology will likely never come to non-Oppo devices, and we don’t see a lot of Oppo phones here in the US. Still, this technology is very impressive, and it makes us hopeful for the future. What’s more important to you; battery life or charging time?
