In July we reported on HTC and Under Armour delaying the HTC Grip until later this year. The Holiday season is quickly approaching, but we haven’t heard any new information yet. There were some reports that HTC scrapped the Grip altogether, but we reached out to HTC and received this statement:
As we continue to develop the Connected Fitness platform and elevate our product offerings, Under Armour and HTC have decided to launch a fully integrated digital ecosystem of products early next year. This global launch will provide the tools needed to help athletes of all levels track, manage and improve their health and fitness. Our teams have done a remarkable job bringing these products to life and we’re excited to share them with the public soon.
You’ll notice that HTC didn’t mention the Grip specifically, but instead an “ecosystem of products.” We still expect a wearable like the Grip, but maybe now we’re get even more devices. Under Armour already has a suite of fitness apps, and they sell a bunch of fitness accessories. The one thing HTC’s devices will offer is a fully integrated experience. Hopefully “early next year” doesn’t slip like the Grip’s initial timeframe.
Are you still interested in a fitness tracking device from HTC and Under Armour? Do you have any interest in fitness trackers at all?
