Verizon LG Optimus Vu Images Leaked – More Confirmation of the Phoneblet’s Impending Launch

LG and Verizon have had a pretty good relationship when it comes to the Big Red pushing their devices on their network. Given Verizon has yet to launch the rumored Samsung Galaxy Note (aka Galaxy “Journal”), it looks like LG is moving in for the kill, beating their South Korean rivals to the punch with their own 5.3 “phablet” (I prefer the term “phoneblet”). Images of the LG Optimus Vu with Verizon branding were leaked today, which didn’t come as much of surprise seeing how the phone was recently revealed in an FCC filing late last month.

Everything here is pretty much what we’ve seen from the Vu at Mobile World Congress 2012. The Vu’s claim to fame is its 5-inch 720p-ish IPS display which, may not sound too big to you, but keep in mind that’s a diagonal measurement of a phone with a 4:3 aspect ratio. What that means is you’re looking at a screen with an almost perfectly square display, making it look huge when compared to the long, rectangular 16:9 aspect ratio displays we’re currently used to. Inside the device is said to pack a Qualcomm S4 processor (with regular Adreno 220 GPU), 1GB of RAM, 8MP camera and comes running on LG’s new UI with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich underneath.

Overall, I’d say the device is pretty sexy and sure to turn a few heads when on display next to the rest of Verizon’s Android lineup. A bit awkward, yes, but still interesting and powerful enough to handle all the media, apps and web browsing you can throw at it. I guess the real question is whether or not you’ll buy it with the Galaxy Note 2 launching later this year…

Can’t help but notice my device is Jelly Bean and this is Ice Cream Sandwich…..

    • Chris Chavez

And 90% of devices are still on Gingerbread O_o

      • Marsg

yea but you have to also keep in consideration that most of those devices that are on gingerbread are low end devices, like the ones sold at boost mobile or droid/droid 2/ droid x and all those other 1-2nd generation devices that aren’t even dual core

      • scott lathrop

90% of devices yet to be released?

  • Marsg

its too squarish looking, idk if its just the picture but a more rectangular shape like the galaxy note would of been better this is like a phone with a ipad ratio screen

  • Jason Farrell

Love the size of the LG Phablet, but hate the aspect ratio, and all that bezel.
    (Note 2 FTW)

Youtube and movies will be difficult to watch on this thing.

  • Aaron Soles

That black and all the branding along with how square it is doesn’t look like anything high end. Also too much bezel.

  • Jonathan Roman

this, like all lg phones before it, will fail.

    that is all.

  • Philip Warren

Wrong info again! It is impossible to have a 720p display with a 4:3 aspect ratio, unless you have rectangular pixels. The resolution is 1024×768. And the screen is 5 inches not 5.3. The Galaxy note has a 5.3 inch screen. T~T

  • Philip Warren

Oh and even more wrong info. It has an S3

    • Chris Chavez

Settle down, Phillip. The source of the article is saying S4 processor, so I guess we’ll have to wait until we hear something more official.

      • Rich Chinito

gs3 or this phone, in ur opinion?

DANG! WTF is that black thing! It’s HUGE!

    • scott lathrop

      That’s what she said!

That girl must have big hands, not sure if that’s a good thing or not…. still debating.

  • effApple

going to be extremely awkward to hold.. check out the diff between my gnex! O_o

Like i said, that girl must have big hands LOL

  • ntegrit

The phone looks huge because it’s 12.33% (almost 1/8) bigger than a similarly sized screen with a 16:9 aspect ratio. Just thought you’d like to know…

  • DavidB23

Bad idea. There really should be someone at LG to stop these bad ideas before they get to the point where we have to see them. This will not sell.

  • Parker Smith

verizon should call it the LG Optimus Pu!

  • Perplexicles

That is the absolute ugliest phone I have ever seen anywhere ever. I’d rock an iPhone before I bought that POS, and I hate Apple. Everyone at LG who thought this was a good idea should be fired.

    • Perplexicles

*Second ugliest phone–i forgot about the Kyocera Echo. ;P

  • BigCiX

Nice screen & specs but ugly design.

  • mhmmd123

I like the looks on the Galaxy Note, way etter.

  • IronHorse01

Looks like a portrait frame yuck

  • Jon doe

    It should be 4.5″ square!

  • OMFCody

I’ll wait for htc’s take on the ‘phablet’. That screen is way too short and wide.

  • Pascal

    One problem it’s LG.

  • Jon doe

That girl is probably 6″3! Her hands actually can hold the biggest phone ever made!

  • Tony Lai

Only if I can take the girl home too with the Vu purchase LOL

  • Devin Casson

    It looks terrible.

  • Tanvir Rozario

It has ICS? I am surprised…thought that LG was really bad at rolling out software updates on time?
