Motorola XOOM WiFi Receiving Ice Cream Sandwich Update [IML77]

18

It appears the Motorola XOOM WiFi is receiving Ice Cream Sandwich today. A thread over at XDA is filled with users reporting that their devices have started receiving the update over-the-air. Those who are rooted are probably already on Ice Cream Sandwich and should ignore this as their developers will likely update their ROMs accordingly. As for those who aren’t be sure to check the About Tablet menu under settings. You’ll be looking for build IML77. [Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. I’m tempted to get the xoom.. Talk me out of it.
I want to wait for the 7″ asus tablet coming out..

    1. The Xoom is thick and heavy.  Has lousy cases available. I have a Xoom and a Galaxy Tab 10.1 (Xoom’s from work, Galaxy Tab was a contest prize).  I wouldn’t get either.  Try the Xyboard, maybe.  Definitely don’t get anything with Samsung’s 30pin connector.  I just had to replace my charging cable: $12.  I thought it’d be nice to have HDMI out on it: $35.

      1. I’m in complete agreement on proprietary charging cables… MOST Android OEMs are starting to figure out that Micro USB is the way to go, we can only hope the rest get on board.

Did you pay $35 for an HDMI cable?

    2. I love my Xoom.  It’s a great device.  Clearly the newer devices are more powerful, but you won’t find anything else out there that is both 4G and stock Android without having to root it.

That said, if you’re willing to root your device, just pick the most powerful one that has the connectivity you want and go nutz.

  2. Mine says “Your system is currently up to date”

  3. >= as an LTE XOOM user.

  4. It would be a great buy if you could find one on Craigslist.

  5. Again, LTE waiting game. Doh!

    1. [sigh]  Please approve the update for the 3G/4G Xoom soon, Verizon!

      1. Unfortunately your carrier is going to cause the big delay here…

  6. I haven’t gotten mine yet, but that hasn’t stopped me from hitting the “check for update” button about a thousand times. Maybe the server is working overtime because so many are waiting for this update? IDK, my obsession with ICS caused me to brick it once. I think that I will wait patiently! I was lucky enough to get it back. Motorola has all you need to do that, too! Including instructions! I friggin’ LOVE Motorola!

  7. Nothing for mine yet.

  8. Verizon I hate you.  But if you update my xoom i may change my mind for a few minutes.

    1. It’s probably in the approval process already.  There’ll be a soak-test just like the wifi version, then it’ll be released.  Probably by mid February, I’d guess.

  9. Got mine a few hours ago…loving the keyboard performance within the browser.

  10. Motorola stated in their official press release that the rollout is happening over the next “few weeks.” I hope we get rewarded for hitting the Check for Update button 30,000 times and we can get it today or tomorrow.

  11. My update was waiting for me when I got up this morning. Haven’t had much time to play with it, but seems much faster and cleaner than HC.

  12. About 4-5 days ago I downloaded what I think was the Android ice cream sandwich. I have the XOOM tablet.
Immediately after the download my books from KOBO wouldn’t open. How do I check what version I have?
