Android Market Version 3.3.11 Now Being Pushed To Devices [Download]

22

I noticed the new Android Market making the rounds on Twitter today and thankfully it’s been uploaded for the downloading. While this download will work for all users (rooted or not), if you’re a tablet user hoping to get in on some of this action, we’ve heard it hasn’t been playing too nice with those devices.

So what’s new in this version? Well, Google doesn’t exactly release changelogs for these sorts of things so we have to go off of the little changes we’ve noticed.

  • New settings like, auto-update apps, update over WiFi-only, Auto-add shortcuts (to homescreen)
  • UI tweaks like smaller font, new app drawer icon, etc.
  • Microphone (voice command) button in search menu
  • Star rating chart on app pages

If you’re feeling a bit paranoid about updating keep in mind you can uninstall updates if something were to go wrong in your Settings > Applications > Manage Applications. Leave us a comments if you experience any weirdness or if the new Market has already been pushed to your device without the need for downloading. Have fun!

I've been obsessed with consumer technology for about as long as I can remember, be it video games, photography, or mobile devices. If you can plug it in, I have to own it. Preparing for the day when Android finally becomes self-aware and I get to welcome our new robot overlords.

  1. just downloaded, there is a setting for adMobs, don’t think that was there before

    1. That setting is in 3.1.5 as well, just checked.

      1. You are correct…Uncheck it.

  2. lets hope they improved performance and failing downloads/updates

  3. Am I the only one who doesn’t like the new Market icon?

  4. another change, there are wifi tags on apps that are big

  5. When will they add the option to block/erasa updating for specific apps? I don’t care what Google’s loyalties are to its developers; some updates cripple/crap/kill an app and I don’t want to see or know about it after I’ve chosen not to update. C’mon, Google, show some appreciation to the users — we’re your bread and butter.

    1. Actually I’m pretty sure the developers is their “bread and butter” more so. After all they are the ones making the platform attractive to users. And users will inevitably come to an attractive platform anyway.

Also while you might very likely be able to handle such a feature the common user with no clue to why they should update, would very likely do it to every app if possible.

    2. Buy Titanium Backup for many reasons. One that specifically talors to your problem, is it can freeze apps, and/or remove market links, so the market won’t even know you have the app installed. so no more update notifications if you want.

  6. It is cool that they added the option in settings to auto update all apps by default, instead of having to go into every app you have and individually tick the option.

I take credit for this, as I submitted this idea to Google :) It took quite a while, but it is there now.

Edit: Here is the link for it: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=19219

    1. Are you taking the blame when it didn’t automatically update my newsest apps this AM?

  7. Ok so after i download the file into my Nexus, what do i do?

  8. It doesn’t work.

I’m using an Evo 4G with CM 7.0.3.1, and it says “application not installed” every time that I try to install it.

  9. Installed fine my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 although I can still access the old Market as well.

  10. Not working on my rooted Thunderbolt w Shiftaosop hacked v2.8

  11. Installed on Thunderbolt CM7.1.1 with Lean kernel and working fine actually better then the current one I might add

  12. Thank you, I love you phandroid :)

  13. Downloaded and installed, when will it self destruct? ahihihi

  14. Neat, you can have multiple gmail accounts in the same market.  Not sure why you would buy apps from different accounts, but it could come in handy.  (Was this in the previous release?)

    1. It was, at least on the previous one – I’m not sure about even earlier releases

  15. Anyone feel it to be a little slower? ( Desire HD)
