16

Sony Ericsson just held a Press Conference at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain and announced TWO  new Android Phones: the Xperia X10 Mini and the Xperia X10 Mini Pro!

Both devices follow the design footsteps of the Xperia X10 but are smaller and more pocketable, with the X10 Mini being touchscreen only and the X10 Mini Pro having a slideout QWERTY Keyboard. Besides the slideout keyboard the only real difference between the phones is their available colors, with the Mini coming in many more varieties.

These days we almost ALWAYS hear about phones well before they are announced through leaks so props to SE for being able to keep a secret! I’m sure there will be a LOT of people following this phone very, very closely until it launches… and they buy it. Are you one of them? Can we get some carrier announcements of this please?

Here is the full Press Release:
February 14, 2010 – Barcelona – Today sees the announcement of Xperia™ X10 mini and X10 mini pro, compact versions of Xperia™ X10, which will deliver powerful and application packed mobile phones into the industry. By introducing mobile phones that are both compact and clever, Sony Ericsson is challenging the norm and defining a brand new offering that combines high specification features with a version of Sony Ericsson’s powerful UX platform specifically designed for smaller devices.

Xperia™ X10 mini and X10 mini pro with slide out QWERTY keyboard offer an open and intuitive communication entertainment experience and build on the human curvature design philosophy debuted by the Sony Ericsson Xperia™ X10. The two sister mobile phones incorporate the signature application Sony Ericsson Timescape™ which brings all communication together in one place so users can see at a glance text messages, missed calls, and Facebook™ and Twitter updates, without having to open lots of different applications. The interactive music player also uses the “infinite button” to pull together all music content from the music store and YouTube™ – a smart way to search for new tracks from a favourite artist.

“There has been an enormous buzz around Xperia™ X10 so it is really exciting to be already unveiling compact versions of this powerful proposition.” Said Rikko Sakaguchi, EVP and Chief Creation Officer, Sony Ericsson. “With the X10 mini and X10 mini pro we have pushed the boundaries of what is possible with smaller devices and are giving consumers exactly what they want; two high performance mobile phones with a fully customisable user experience platform and a stunning ultra-compact design.”

  1. Looks like some very nice phones! I like the design.

  2. If that X10 mini Pro comes out in the UK on the right network…I will get it!

  3. 2.55 inches? its a dwarf!

  4. alright processor but RAM and screen size sucks….

  5. i was actually considering a huge screen and at best a slideout qwerty..

but coming from “at least small since it stays in my pocket most of the time”-phones the mini pro does seem interesting

  6. If this is priced right it could do very well.

I get a feeling it’ll be vastly over priced though.

  7. too small! even with the slideout qwerty.

i wish they would have taken their aino phone threw android on it and gave it a qwerty, that would be the perfect phone.

  8. Good devices to spread Androids goodness.

Too many spec obsessed geeks on here purely looking for the next big beast in hardware. Get a grip guys. Android will not survive only on the newest most expensive(being the important bit) hardware. It needs to have appeal EVERYWHERE.

    FUCK.

  9. i still don’t get how typing on that screen with be a comfortable or good experience. it looks too small! the slide out keyboard is a step up but even that looks too small and cramped.

  10. thanks for the price

  11. @Phoenix, Typing on the X10 Mini is actually… not too bad. I work with Sony Ericsson, and have been testing the Mini the past couple of months. The T9 buttons on the touchscreen are bigger than a single letter on an iPhone.

As for the Mini Pro, the keyboard itself is bigger than most BlackBerries, not to mention Nokia E-71/2. Anyone used to typing on these devices won’t have a problem on the M-Pro.

    :-)

  12. The X10 mini pro’s keyboard is certainly compact, but Sony Ericsson have sensibly avoided cluttering it up with extraneous button rows and so it’s actually pretty reasonable for thumbing out text messages and emails.

Text entry on the keyboardless X10 mini is a little less slick, with Sony Ericsson’s concession to display size being a T9-style layout rather than a full on-screen QWERTY. More: http://is.gd/8AyNl

  13. There is a qwerty keyboard to download i have it in my mini

  14. This is to Jonas where did u download the qwerty for minI

  15. Hi

I just purchased this cell, its really cool. i am highly impressed with DESIGN and quality of interface. Camer and sound quality altimate. i love this phone.

  16. I have the new X10 mini pro and I am liking it. the feeling of browsing or tackling the phone on the phone store is different once you actually use it at home. at first, I had a bad impression about those small phones but I said why not try.. and I was amazed how it works. Well, two thumbs up for X10 mini pro.
