Oppo Watch 2 arrives with Snapdragon Wear 4100 and 16-day battery life

Earlier this year, it was reported that the Oppo Watch 2 would be the latest smartwatch to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear 4100. The company has unveiled its new smartwatch, and it is in fact powered by Qualcomm’s current-gen wearable chipset.

Instead of trying to do anything overly different, the Oppo Watch 2 is positioned as a direct successor to the original Oppo Watch from last year. The design remains largely the same, looking somewhat like an Apple Watch, while featuring two buttons on the right side of the frame.

There are two versions available, both of which use a curved AMOLED display with a 326ppi. The 42mm version features a 1.75-inch display with a 430 x 372 resolution. With the 46mm model, the display is bumped up to 1.91-inches with a 430 x 402 resolution.

Last year, the Oppo Watch was powered by the Snapdragon Wear 3100, and that has been upgraded to the Wear 4100. Perhaps Qualcomm is beginning to lower the price of its current flagship wearable processor, as more smartwatches are being released with it. But it’s important to note that Qualcomm is already working on another Snapdragon Wear chipset, but has yet to unveil this new SoC.

Outside of the processor upgrade, perhaps the most exciting part of this new smartwatch is the battery life. Oppo claims the Watch 2 will be able to last up to 16 days on a single charge. However, this number can only be achieved when using Oppo’s Power Saver mode. When in use, this will automatically turn off various features to keep battery usage low. If you aren’t using the Power Saver mode, Oppo claims the Watch 2 will reach up to four days on a single charge, while including support for the company’s ultra-fast VOOC charging.

Some of the key features of the Oppo Watch 2 include 24-hour heart rate monitoring, along with an SpO2 (blood oxygen sensor). The Watch 2 is capable of tracking your workouts with more than 100 different modes to choose from. It also offers 5ATM water resistance and built-in GPS so you can take it for a few laps in the pool, and keep track of your distances.

Oppo didn’t make mention of whether the Watch 2 will be made available in markets other than China. Those in China can pre-order this new smartwatch starting today, ahead of its August 6 release date. Pricing for the 42mm version starts at around $200, while the 46mm version is priced at about $310 and includes an eSIM for cellular connectivity.
