June is officially Developer Appreciation Month at Phandroid and we’ve got a ton of excitement planned!
When Android was announced in 2007, it was no secret that Google would have to rally the developer troops in order to accomplish the levels of innovation they imagined with Android. Ever since the first Android Developer Challenge, where thousands of developers submitted their apps, the development community has taken Android places that few dreamed possible. We’re taking the entire month of June to celebrate Android’s developers in a multitude of ways.
What can you expect during Developer Appreciation Month?
- Developer Contests with prizes including a Google IO Ticket, Google IO Prize Packs, NVIDIA Tegra 3 powered phones & tablets, and much more!
- Two entirely new website sections created specifically for developers
- Interviews with Android Developers of all sizes and success levels.
- Exclusive content from featured developers including app announcements, app/game reviews, price drops, guest posts, and more.
- Tutorials, Case Studies, and content geared towards indie developers
- A brand new Phandroid News app and complete site redesign coming later this month
We’ll also be at Google IO in San Francisco with some Phandroid swag to hand out to Developer fans, not to mention covering all the announcements and info!

so app devs are the only developers?
Absolutely not. Early next week, we’ll be doing something pretty special for game developres, so stay tuned for that. Not sure where I slipped up in the article… but didn’t mean to project that tone. Apologies if I did. Happy to update the article.

Define “developer”.
EDIT: Other page says: “developer focused contests will require winners to verify they’re a developer by proving they have an application or game on the Google Play Store (via matching E-Mail addresses).”
So it’s only for app/game devs with an app/game on Play ?
Someone could spend a few hours with App Inventor or some other easy app creation framework making a “Hello World” app. Does that count ?
ROM and kernel devs may not have an app on Google Play. Does that count ?
What about non independent developers working for a company ?
What about non-Android devs ?

Are any of the prizes available to Canadian residents? I would love the Google I/O ticket, as I’ve gone in the past but couldn’t get tickets this year.
Sure… I haven’t set any geographical limitations. As long as you know that travel and all that jazz is paid for yourself.

I want to create an App, using Google Earth or Google Maps.
I have the largest database of Gold Mines and Quarries in the State of Oregon more than 10,000 GPS and Mapping Coordinates along with descriptions and much more information about each.
Can someone tell me how I use this information to so it would work in Google Earth as most of the information is off road, or a good Topo map would do it.

The irony is that I’ve been so busy with the next release of my app that I hadn’t checked Phandroid in the last week… and now look at what I missed out on. Though I’m already going to I/O so I suppose someone more worthy/needing got that.

Admittedly, it’s pretty nerdy. But I develop on iOS and BB for work so I think I have a pretty good perspective on app development for Android.
It is not good because we paid 1500.00 dallors for new galaxy s phones when came out . The phones have not made it through the two contract and were told it’s samsungs fault not cspire I know it’s both. Doing strange things after a fiber optic cable was damaged . And so then were told it’s because it needs two updates now they barely work and were stuck with them cause both company’s are blaming other.
