I’ve been waiting for what seems like a lifetime for Rubicon Development to finally release Great Little War Game onto Android. As soon as I heard it was released over the weekend, I purchase the title in the Market without so much as thinking twice. GLWG is a tactical turn-based strategy game for Android along the lines of the Advanced Wars for the Nintendo Gameboy/DS. But don’t mistake this as some cheap knock-off, GLWG features top of the line 3D rendered graphics capable of pushing your smartphone’s GPU to its limit. In fact, the game looks so great, it’s actually recommended you turn the graphic quality on “low” to keep your phone from melting in your hands.
Currently, GLWG’s only multiplayer is a 2-player pass-the-phone mode but the developers did mention they are working on network multiplayer to be featured in a future update. With amazing turn-based gameplay, gorgeous visuals and sound, Great Little War Game is definitely not a title you want to pass up on. You can find GLWG right now in the Android Market for $2.99.
Just bought it. It’s definitely really sweet looking, but the graphics aren’t quite as good as I expected them to be. They’re beautiful, but from the description, I thought they were going to cripple my poor phone. Gameplay is amazing, but it runs perfectly on ultra on my Droid 2 Global. Did I miss something, or is my phone really capable of running this?
Runs fine on ipad 1, 4 don’t see why it wouldn’t work on your Droid 2. Love it both on the ipad and S2
That’s sweet that it runs on iPad as well. I just thought, by the way it’s described in the market, that the graphics were way better than they are. They’re still awesome, but I thought they were going to be so amazing that my phone couldn’t handle it.
Haha! I just read a lot of comments from users in the Market saying it was destroying their devices. Maybe it runs better on certain processors than others.
Either way, the animations, realistic water textures, real time shadows, normal mapping, etc. This game looks great!
I dunno.. Maybe it’s just my fantasy of Advanced Wars finally getting some HD treatment that’s making me go nuts =p

If the article “sounded over enthusiastic” I assure you it was 100% genuine. Advanced Wars was my all time favorite handheld game and the fact that I can play it now with 3D rendered graphics in HD, on my smartphone makes me want to scream. In fact — I did.
Oh — and Phandroid doesn’t get paid to write articles. If we did, I’m sure we all would be writing up iPhone stories everyday o_O
