All you developers out there listen up: Google’s been cooking something up for you. That something is a new developers’ portal that’ll keep you updated on the latest news, events and announcements for your coding lifestyle.
To commemorate the launch, they’ve finally released the first of many APIs to come for Google+. This one is simple – it’ll allow developers to read the public posts of a user after the user has granted that application permission to do so.
There are a few different use cases where this could be employed and Google’s left it up to you guys to make it happen.
That’s not even scratching the surface, though. This is the only API available for the time being, but Google has mentioned they will be bringing many more Google+ APIs in the near future. Get started here and here. [Source, Via]
API, an abbreviation of application program interface, is a set of routines, protocols, and tools for building software applications. A good API makes it easier to develop a program by providing all the building blocks. A programmer then puts the blocks together. Have we not all enjoyed playing with blocks?
Fun, but of course what we’re all waiting for is the ability to post.
Still, it seems to work well, and the docs are great. It’s a good start.
I so can’t wait to see what comes out of this… Perhaps I will build a DotNetNuke module for this too. :)
Who cares… less and less people are using Google+. Looks like another failed Google idea.
Retty much. The only reason i use it now is it doubles as a picassa app for my phone.
I don’t think that’s correct I think the growth has slowed and there were some (unvetted) stats to say that the number of public posts had gone down. Perhaps you mean “people are using it less and less” which may be fair.
Personally I think as it’s not even gone public yet it needs more time to take up traction. It’s too early for people to be calling “fail” as people so love to do. Facebook didn’t topple myspace overnight so why expect Google+ to do that? My belief is that Google+ will grow but facebook will get better and both will coexist then tools like tweekdeck and seesmic will allow people to use both/either.
Android wouldn’t be so good if the iphone didn’t exists and vice versa so I really hope Google+ doesn’t fail.
I love how everyone thinks they’re an industry expert about what technology will last or fail…
