Computers are smart. Very smart. And by extension, phones are also very smart. That’s why learning multiple languages is like cake in the oven for them. Google’s just updated their official Googles application for Russian support.
Whether you’re scanning a book cover or one of those signs in Moscow don’t have any sort of translation, Goggles will be able to handle it for you. Other changes include a new map view to show where you performed your Goggles searches and the ability to copy contact and text results to your clipboard. Oh, and the search results view has been refined. More details and images can be had at Google. Download’s in the Android market.

Very impressive, and useful.
Trouble is, with roaming data rates you’ll pay $10 to read each sign.
Just tested it on a Russian book. Worked pretty well. Incorrectly read some characters as capital letters, but otherwise fared quite well.
My Russian handwriting, on the other hand… well, that didn’t go so well. I suspect it would not recognize Russian script either, which as I recall is used in a lot of signs in Russia.
Still, very nifty.
