You folks in the UK will be able to scoop up the Samsung Galaxy S II sooner than we thought! Samsung has penned a May 1st launch for a device many feared was delayed. Samsung put an end to those rumors last week when it confirmed that the device would be heading to South Korea sometime later this month. Samsung also mentions that all major carriers in the UK will get the device just as they did its predecessor. Let’s hope for the same in other regions soon enough. Read ahead for the full press details.

SAMSUNG ANNOUNCES UK AVAILABILITY OF THE GALAXY S II

Samsung’s most powerful smartphone yet set to hit UK shores on 1st May

11th April 2011, London, UK – Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., today announces that its slimmest and lightest smartphone yet, the Samsung Galaxy S II (Model: GT-I9100), will be available in UK shops on 1st May 2011. The Galaxy S II is the first handset to offer Samsung’s Super AMOLED Plus screen technology, the largest, brightest and most colourful screen available in Samsung’s portfolio of devices.

Super slim (8.49mm) and lightweight (116g) Samsung’s Galaxy S II runs on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) and is super-fast thanks to its dual-core 1.2GHz processor. The device’s exceptionally bright screen makes it perfect for watching movies and TV or playing games and looking at apps, with its ground-breaking ‘organic’ LED technology, Super AMOLED Plus also saving energy so you can enjoy watching content without affecting the battery life.

The Galaxy S II is built for multi-tasking, its dual-core processor makes switching between applications and loading web pages such as Google, Yahoo and YouTube quick, whilst superior 3D hardware means games and videos can be loaded and played with ease. What’s more, there’s immediate access to content and services such as catch up TV and movie downloads, thanks to super-fast connectivity and WiFi, with speeds up to 21Mbps which provides increased download speeds, and Bluetooth 3.0+HS which reduces data transfer times significantly.

Simon Stanford, Managing Director, Mobile, Samsung UK and Ireland said: “From the moment it was revealed at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona there has been a huge buzz about the Galaxy S II, so we’re pleased to announce that it will be available for UK customers to buy from 1st May. Our slimmest, lightest, fastest smartphone is our first device to offer of Super AMOLED Plus screen technology, alongside the most advanced technical specifications including the latest Android OS and a dual core processor. We’re confident it’s a great package for anyone wanting a superior smartphone experience.”

The Galaxy S II also features an 8 megapixel camera with 1080p HD recording and playback, Samsung’s patented AllShare technology so you can share pictures, movies, and music with other devices and Samsung’s new Kies Air which lets people manage their smartphone contents from their PC via local WiFi connections.

A new ‘Live Panel’ feature on the Galaxy S II allows aggregation of live web, social networking and application contents to a single customisable home-screen, whilst it’s possible to place all the important parts of your life onto three adjacent home screens which you can switch between simply by pressing and holding on the screen. As with all the Samsung Galaxy family, the Galaxy S II features Samsung Hubs, providing a huge range of entertainment content, advanced mobile games and the ability to manage social networking accounts.

The Samsung Galaxy S II will be available in the UK across all major networks and retailers.

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. Phwoar, I’m glad it makes loading websites such as Google “quick”! Finally, the phone we’ve all been waiting for!

  2. This will shit on any phone out between now and the end of summer.

I guess the US has to wait for some big NYC release party where all the Frankensteined versions can be simultaneously put on display. Fuckin just give us a non Americanized version this time!!

  3. Pretty pretty please come to Verizon!

  4. One thing I’ve always liked about Samsung is that they always impress with their hardware. I’m upgrading my Droid X to Galaxy II when it arrives here in the US.

    1. Don’t forget how smooth it browser compare to other android phone, nothing can beat this smooth included nexus s

  5. damn i want this badddddd!

  6. I love this phone and my current epic, but I just hate that samsung tries so hard to make their phone look similar to iPhone. If i wanted an iPhone i would buy one. There is a reason I have an android. Its because i dont want it.

    1. mate, the phone is rectangular with rounded corners… a pretty classic and basic shape, same as iphone, i agree, and both have a grey screen…
Switch it on and it looks nothing like an iphone (unless of course the iphone5 catches up to android and starts using widgets ;)

  7. I will have a tough decision to make if this comes out on Sprint after I get the Nexus S 4G.

  8. im not a fan of the iphone likeness, wish it looked more like the thunderbolt but with the same dimensions and specs. Im leaning toward the SGSII over the bionic now, especially if the bionic will be locked, which it probably will be…

    1. couldn’t agree any more. I want this phone for it’s specs, not because it looks so much like the Iphone but I would prefer that it didn’t look so much like the Iphone…more like the Nexus S would be nice.

    2. I agree, if I wanted an iPhone I would buy an iPhone. The problem is that I don’t want an iPhone but that I do want to upgrade my Incredible and nothing else Verizon is offering looks decent.

  9. Nice. I will be the first in line getting this as my Orange upgrade contract.
This will kill all other mobiles and mobiles TBA/C for 2011.

    2011 Most powerful phone!!! :D

  10. 2011’s most Powerful phone.

  11. This will kill all phones coming out this year. The hardware on this monster is horrendous. I will be getting this in September

    1. Can you even confirm if it’s exynos or tegra 2, if it’s tegra 2, I’d look else where.

      1. it will of course be Exynos in the U.K no crappy tegra thank god =)

        1. Source? Hmmm?

          Sent from ?

    2. Horrendous means horrible…also to the other’s, it will ship with exynos instead of tegra 2 (tegra 2 is FAR better in my opinion).

  12. Glad they decided for AMOLED Plus in the end. The LCD rumours were killing me!

  13. This phone is just SICK! Anyone know when it’s coming to the U.S.?

  14. Please come to the U.S. already! All this news is making me jealous.

  15. I’m exited for this one! I love my vibrant.. It’s one sexy piece if hardware and rooted.. This thing flies.. I own a galaxy tab too.. So when I go back to my phone.. the screen looks tiny. Haha… I could use an extra .3″ haha. And super amoled plus! Damn I feel like three is no upgrading after this One for a while! :) I want this version though… No americanized shxt.. Unless they make like the vibrant was to the galaxy s i9000.. Then I wouldn’t mind. But even them I’m exited, kinda nervous to see what the american carriers would do with this one.

  16. I would not care if they called it the ophone and had a picture of an orange on the back as long as it was good, no brand loyalty or design elitism here.

Now the real question is if this comes out in the UK when does it come out in the US. Does anyone know of any precedence for this, like the release dates between UK/US for past devices, maybe Samsung in particular. Just curious to see how long of a wait we are looking at here.
