MediaTek’s Dimensity 9300 could clock in faster than the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3

The majority of smartphones you see in the market these days are powered by Qualcomm’s chipsets. It is usually phones you find released in China or entry or mid-range devices where you might spot the use of a MediaTek chipset.

Unfortunately for MediaTek, this is the image that they have at the moment, but the company’s upcoming Dimensity 9300 could change that. Leaked specs shared on Weibo by Digital Chat Station have revealed the potential clock speeds for the chipset and they appear to be faster than Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

According to the report, the Dimensity 9300 will feature an octa-core design where it will sport a single Cortex-X4 core clocked at 3.25GHz, three more X4 cores clocked at 2.85GHz, and four A720 cores clocked at 2GHz. This is versus the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 which has a single X4 clocked at 3.19GHz, five A720 cores clocked at 2.96GHz, and two A520 cores clocked at 2.27GHz.

We had previously heard that MediaTek had approached the design of the Dimensity 9300 where they were doing away with the use of efficiency cores that we typically find in chipsets these days, prioritizing performance over efficiency. On paper it seems like the Dimensity 9300 will be faster, but whether it will be at the expense of battery life remains to be seen.
