The June 2023 Update has Finally Arrived for Pixel Devices

0

If you own a Google Pixel phone, you might want to check if your device is eligible for the latest software update – Google has begun rolling out the June 2023 software patch for compatible devices, which includes phones in the Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 series.

The update brings some cool new features, which should be gradually available for more users as the update makes its way to more regions.

Updates to Safety Features

Users can now use voice commands with Google Assistant to initiate emergency sharing and schedule safety checks. For example, users stepping out of their house for a while can say “Hey Google, start a safety check for 30 minutes,” which prompts the device to notify emergency contacts and share real-time location in case a user doesn’t respond.

Additionally, car crash detection can now share real-time location and call status with emergency contacts, in addition to automatically contacting emergency services.

New Camera Features

The Pixel 7 Pro’s Macro Focus can now be used while filming video, allowing users to record fine details in their video clips. Pixels (including the Pixel 6 and newer) will also allow users to take self-timed photos by raising their palms, triggering the timer after setting the desired countdown duration.

Cinematic and Emoji Wallpapers

As previewed a while back, users can now use their own photos as their homescreen background, which can now be set as “Cinematic” wallpapers with added 3D effects. Also making its debut is the new “emoji wallpaper” feature, which allows users to mix and match over 4,000 emoji with different patterns and colors to create live wallpapers.

More Updates

  • The Pixel Recorder app now features speaker labels, enabling users with Pixel 6 and newer phones will to export transcripts into Google Docs, generate speaker-labeled video clips and search for speakers within recordings.
  • You can now access your favorite smart home devices directly from your Pixel’s lock screen via the Google Home app. The redesigned home panel lets users turn off lights, adjust the temperature, monitor cameras and more.
  • Pixel 6a and Pixel 7a devices can now lower vibration intensity when placed on a hard, flat surface like a desk or table.
  • Adaptive Charging now uses Google AI to predict long charging sessions based on your previous charging habits, and slowly charge to 100% one hour before it’s expected to be unplugged.
  • Google Assistant now features two new voice options, totaling 12 in U.S. English.

To check if your Pixel phone is eligible for these updates, head over to your Settings App > System > System Update to check for an update.
