There are many reasons why glass might crack. Obviously dropping it is one possibility, another could be pressure where sitting on our phones could bend it enough to crack. But it seems that for the glass cover of the Pixel 7’s cameras, users are reporting that it is shattering for no apparent reason.
According to a bunch of user reports, they are claiming that they are discovering that the glass on the camera cover is broken after taking it out of their pockets. Many are puzzled by the development as some claim that their phones are in a protective case, which is why some believe that it could have shattered due to the cold weather.
At this point it is unclear if this could be due to a manufacturing error, components that weren’t QC-ed well, or if it is simply user error. Either way, based on the comments on the Reddit post, some users were able to get their devices replaced, so if you happen to have the glass cover on your Pixel 7’s camera crack, there is a chance you could get it fixed.
That being said, it doesn’t seem to be a very widespread issue meaning that we’re sure that Google won’t be recalling the handsets due to this, but it might be something to keep an eye out for, especially if you’re living somewhere where it might be particularly cold.
