Twitter made an unexpected revelation on Tuesday that it is working on adding an edit button to the platform. The news comes after the corporation appeared to make a joke about it on April Fools’ Day.
The edit tool has been in the development since last year, according to Twitter. However, it appears like we’re still a long way from its launch, since it will begin testing on Twitter Blue Labs “in the next months.”
The user selects the three-dot menu in the upper right hand corner of a tweet and selects the “Edit Tweet” option in the announcement tweet, which shows how the feature might work.

Although adding an edit feature could help us correct our mistakes, there is concerns that the tool could be misused. Former CEO Jack Dorsey was asked in a 2020 interview if Twitter will introduce an edit function, to which he simply replied “No.” His idea is that once someone tweets something which gets a lot of retweets, that person may then alter the tweet to make it mean something completely different. He seemed to imply that for trivial typos, the already “Undo Tweet” option was the right answer, and that Twitter might well “probably never” add an edit button to the site.
Twitter is expected to undergo certain adjustments as a result of the new CEO’s appointment and the addition of Elon Musk to the board of directors. So this may be the start of a wave of changes to come.
