Want to transfer your WhatsApp chat history and other data from iOS to Android? It used to be that you would have to rely on third-party tools that may or may not work, but as you might have heard, WhatsApp has been working on a way for users to transfer and migrate data across platforms.
The good news is that the feature is close to launch, but the bad news is that unless you own a Samsung device or plan to buy Samsung’s recently-announced Galaxy Z Fold 3 or Galaxy Z Flip 3 handsets, you’ll have to wait for your turn.
WhatsApp made the announcement during the launch of Samsung’s new phones and revealed that the feature will be exclusive to Samsung phones first before it becomes available for all other devices. The feature will allow users to transfer chat history as well as photos and voice memos and will roll out in the coming weeks.
As to those wondering why it took this long, according to WhatsApp, it’s not as easy or straightforward as you might think. This is due to the end-to-end encryption used to protect the contents of your WhatsApp messages, which meant additional work and the collaboration between WhatsApp, the OS developers, and the phone makers.
Either way, we suppose it’s better late than never.
