Breaking down the Xiaomi Mi Mix 4
If you are looking for the absolute best smartphone to date, Xiaomi might have just nailed it with the Mi Mix 4. The device is sporting Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 888+ chipset with either 8GB or 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage.
The 6.67-inch Curved AMOLED display just melts into the frame, while sporting a 120Hz refresh rate and a 480Hz touch sampling rate. But the defining feature here is the introduction of Xiaomi’s Camera Under Panel (CUP) technology. This is what Xiaomi is using to essentially hide the 20MP selfie camera below the display. By doing so, you’re presented with an uninterrupted display and at least in the images we’re seeing now, it looks incredible.
Moving to the rear camera system, Xiaomi packed a triple camera array into the back of the Mi Mix 4. This setup is headlined by a 108MP main lens, along with a 13MP ultra-wide camera using a free-form lens, and an 8MP periscope sensor. This periscope lens offers 5x optical zoom and 50x digital zoom, while including OIS just like the 108MP main sensor.
Battery life is as expected with a 4,500mAh cell said to provide enough juice to get you through the day. But just like we’ve seen from other 2021 flagships, the biggest battery benefit comes in the form of charging capabilities. The Mi Mix 4 supports up to 120W wired fast charging, along with 50W wireless charging. Xiaomi claims this will charge the Mix 4 from 0 to 100% in just 21 minutes, but there’s a new “Boost Mode” that will get you from 0 to 100% in just 15 minutes. And as for the 50W wireless charging, Xiaomi claims you’ll get to 100% in 45 minutes in normal mode, or 28 minutes in Boost Mode.
Other features of the Mi Mix 4 include an IP53 rating for splash resistance, along with a built-in IR blaster and NFC capabilities. The dual-speaker system has been tuned by Harman Kardon, and the Mix 4 also includes an Ultra Wideband chip, while supporting 5G networks.
Xiaomi Mi Mix 4 Price and Availability
Xiaomi has not confirmed exactly when the Mi Mix 4 will go on sale, but it did confirm that it will not be made available globally. Instead, the Mi Mix 4 will only be available in China, which is rather disappointing to say the least.
Pricing for the Xiaomi Mi Mix 4 starts at $770 for the base 8GB/128GB configuration, while maxing out at around $972 for the 12GB/512GB model. Additionally, the Mi Mix 4 comes in three different colors — Ceramic Black, Ceramic White, and Ceramic Gray.
