The OnePlus Watch was so highly anticipated that the company sold out within minutes of it being listed on the online storefront. In fact, if you tried to buy one now, you still wouldn’t be able to as it seems that OnePlus just can’t keep up with the demand. This is still rather impressive given the number of issues that folks have been seeing with the first OnePlus smartwatch. Many reviewers panned the Watch, claiming that while the hardware is okay, the features are bland and even fitness tracking doesn’t perform as well as it could.
To remedy these problems, OnePlus has steadily been releasing software updates, while also adding in a few features here and there. The latest update is arriving in waves, as the company pushed the B.48 update to a “small percentage of users first”, before it begins a wider rollout of the update to more users. In this update, we will finally be getting an Always-on Display for the OnePlus Watch. This seems like a forgone conclusion by this point, but just about every other smartwatch out there has an AOD option available, so it only makes sense for OnePlus to get on board.
Here’s the official changelog for the B.48 update:
- Add Always-on Display dial
- Remote Control Camera function
- Add Marathon workout
- Improvements
- Optimize system UI details
- Fix known issues and improve system stability.
OnePlus does note that if you enable the AOD on your OnePlus Watch, that you could see battery life reduced “by about half”. This really may not be a huge deal for some, as the Watch already touts some of the best battery life on the market. However, cutting it down by 50% is still jarring enough for you to think twice before just enabling AOD on your new wearable.
