This is the Microsoft Surface Duo and it will cost you $1399

Back in 2019, Microsoft revealed that they would be getting back into the smartphone game with an upcoming handset in the form of the Surface Duo. This is an interesting and potentially risky comeback, given Microsoft’s success (?) with smartphones in the past, and also its form factor.

If you are curious and wouldn’t mind being an early adopter, you will be pleased to learn that Microsoft has since confirmed that the Surface Duo will finally be hitting the shelves next month, or to be more specific, it will be arriving on the 10th of September. The phone will be priced starting at $1,399 which makes it slightly cheaper than other foldables like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 and the Huawei Mate X.

In addition to announcing the launch date, Microsoft also revealed some additional hardware specs like its display, where it will be using two separate 5.6-inch screens connected via a “revolutionary” 360-degree hinge. When combined, it will give users a screen real estate of 8.1-inches, although there will be a somewhat ugly hinge right smack in the middle.

The company does not mention what kind of specs the phone will be packing, but last we heard, it was said to be using the 2019 Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset, 6GB of RAM, and a 3,460mAh battery, which we have to wonder if it is good enough to support dual displays properly.
