Who knew that something as simple as intelligent screen auto-rotation could be the highlight of a new smartphone. The Huawei Mate 30 Pro introduces AI Auto-Rotate which takes advantage of the phone’s 3D camera on the front to analyze the orientation of your eyes to lock the rotation of the screen rather than relying on the gyroscope as most other devices do.
With AI Auto-Rotate turned on, you can finally do away with switching the auto-rotate feature off when folding your phone in your hand and laying on the couch or in bed. The demo below shows how the screen’s orientation will automatically switch when walking around the phone so that it’s always facing the right direction for you to best-enjoy your Mate 30.
Naturally, using AI AUto-Rotate will likely have a negative impact on the phone’s battery life, but with a 4,500mAh cell inside the Mate 30 Pro, that should be too much of an issue.
Huawei is also using the 3D cameras on the phone for gesture detection and security. One demo showed a notification which contained confidential information, but when someone peers over your shoulder, the notification collapses, hiding sensitive details you probably don’t want others seeing.
