When you think about “fast” phones, there is a good chance you might be thinking of its processor. Obviously higher clock speeds and additional cores play a part in determining speed, but at the same, the choice of storage should not be ignored as well. This is the same as computers, where the speed of accessing or saving your files depends a lot on your storage medium.
The good news for would-be OnePlus 7 buyers is that in a tweet by the company’s CEO Pete Lau, he has confirmed that the upcoming OnePlus 7 series will be using UFS 3.0 storage. Introduced back in 2018, UFS 3.0 represents a huge leap forward in terms of read and write speeds, meaning how fast your phone will be able to access contents stored on it, like apps, photos, videos, and etc., and also how fast it can write to the storage as well.
For those who do a lot of photo or video editing on their phones, the use of UFS 3.0 could help speed up the overall process. According to benchmarks spotted earlier this year, we are looking at potential read speeds of up to 2.2GB/s and write speeds of up to 1.8GB/s. This is versus UFS 2.0 which has read speeds of around 800MB/s and write speeds of 195MB/s.
