Whether you’re in the shower, dropping the kids off at the pool, or have your hands full doing something else, sometimes you’re not always able to accept calls the moment you receive them. That’s where voicemail comes into play, allowing people to simply leave you a message about the reason why they were calling so you can get back to them on your own time.
The same applies to video calling, although when it came to Google Duo, you simply accepted a video call or you didn’t — there wasn’t a way for someone to leave you a message in the event you can’t accept their call. That changes today.
Google has announced a new update to Google Duo (something we knew was coming thanks to leaks) where users can now leave video messages. You’ll see the “leave video message” option on your screen whenever the person on the other end is unavailable and tapping will enter a countdown before it starts recording, with video messages being up to 30 seconds in length.
Unlike voicemail, video messages are only kept for 24 hours once you’ve viewed them, but you’ll have the option to save/download them to your phone. Video messages on Duo begins rolling out starting today on Android and iOS, so be on the lookout.
